Disagree with this. Calories in V calories out is the whole pie when it comes to weight gain/weight loss. The complexity is all the non-eating and non exercise factors that contribute to the calories in and the calories out
Your second sentence is exactly what I intended to convey. I may have made it confusing with the “piece of the pie” thing, which I now see isn’t the best way to bring up the point I wanted to bring.

I think I agree with what you are sayin but disagree with the wording. Her metabolism is below what it should be because her body is doing it’s job and adapted in a healthy manner to her prior habits of underfeeding while being overactive.
The habits that have contributed to her bodies adaptations are unhealthy, the body adapting to those habits is healthy.
The body is amazing at adapting to whatever the user throws at it, but they’re just adaptations. Whether they’re healthy or not depends on what the user wants.
From what she regularly posts here, most of her body’s adaptations aren’t the results Anna wants. And she keeps doing the same thing anyways.
And I meant “health” in a holistic sense. Anna has(had? Last I remember it was getting better) issues with her hormones. She doesn’t sleep very well. She eats way too many vegetables, to the point that it is probably causing her gut issues if the post where she said she ate less vegetables and felt better means at one time means anything. A lot of what she writes of her life suggests she suffers all the stress a college student who’s trying to achieve greatness would suffer. I sincerely believe she may be stressing herself to death with her constant fears of the future.
Ergo, I don’t think I’d say she’s healthy.
Eh, I meant in relation to Anna herself. The way she wrote her sentences, I got the impression that people outright told her that they think it’s cool that she gets to gain weight without increasing calories too much. Given what I recall of the conversations between her and the people who most frequently post in her log, I doubt this.
This sounds like semantics to me. Since most people’s idea of calories in means “what I eat” and calories out means “(BMR) + exercise” but people don’t really include digestion into BMR and imagine their BMR can’t be lowered substantially and that’s why it can be helpful to not distill this entire complex thing into CICO.
I haven’t always been the most helpful poster to @anna_5588 and I get that all of our intentions are good but I’ve recently hit a rough patch myself with food and body image and if this correspondence was in my log it wouldn’t help me — I’d initially feel berated actually and then somewhat unimportant as that rather than listening to (and engaging with) me a debate on CICO runs its course.
@anna_5588 I’m happy that you could be open about this and that we get to talk to you about these things. I also remember a time when you were riding high on some really good life events and the log turned things sour. Obviously, I’m bringing a lot of personal bias into this as per the above paragraph so maybe this isn’t a good idea after all but have you imagined having two logs, one that focuses on the training and another for when and if you want to talk about the “other stuff” so that you get to decide where to go based on what you have the energy for?
@Voxel you hit the nail on the head. Thank you. I don’t have time to manage two logs. It’s hard to keep up wjth this one. I just wish ppl would accept my desire to not gain weight and appreciate what I CAN do, as well as the other stuff.
I have self esteem issues, but I’m pretty sure that most women at 105lbs can’t deadlift 240 for 5 easy. I also know that most undergrads don’t have 5 professors willing to write grad school recommendation letters by junior year, three of whom are close with/colleagues of the faculty members I hope to work with
felt pretty good but took way longer rests than needed lol, happy with top set and lunges
I was looking back at my old log and realized that part of my weight gain might be because I’m just doing less work. I used have daily burpees or swings as well as higher volume. basically I’ve just gotten lazy
I have. I don’t agree with the decision but whatever I think about it doesn’t matter in the slightest, when it is your decision to begin with. You have been given all the information, warnings and concerned opinions one could ever need to form a decision (that you partly asked for but also were given without you actually seeking them). To me there is no point of repeating them over and over. You’re smart, you understood them.
I think what triggers people to repeat themselves so often is probably that you tend to make seemingly conflicting statements or ask questions that people feel like can only have given before answers. Without talking to you in person that could make an irrational impression.
But I fully agree that we as a community should only give our opinion at this point if we’re directly asked. At least on the topic of weight manipulation and training volume.
LH dropped a bit: 6.6 to 5.2
FSH increased: 1.5 to 2
Testosterone increased: 24 to 32
DHEA increased (probably due to stress): 359 to 444
no change in Thyroid, so T3 is still low…
I was expecting some pretty bad things, a lot better than expected.
Bench: 1x10-30, 1x8-40, 1x6-45kg; 5x5-50 paused
Db lateral raises: 5x10-10lb dbs
Btn press: 4x8-20kg
Curls: 4x5-20kg
Conditioning: DB front squat tabata- 25lb dbs, racked all 4min, 9 reps all rounds
felt pretty good but went quite slow- I’ve really gotten lazy- GZCL after this will shape me up.
Updates: (warning long)
The situation is escalating with Econ discussion friend… it’s starting to cut into my productivity somewhat but I’m not willing to give up having someone to bounce ideas off of.
I’m meeting prof loewenstein next Tuesday. He scheduled me for an hour… this is exciting, but also really scary.
I HAVE A SENIOR THESIS PROJECT!!! I met with my advisors yesterday and it was the first time we didn’t spend 1/2 the meeting in awkward silence thinking. We had a good discussion and I came out of it with clear to do’s
I’m not abandoning nit picky advisor and he didn’t abandon me. Turns out his wife had been having serious medical issues. The project has still ground tk a halt but he said he wants to continue. I really want to quit this but I don’t feel like I can if he doesn’t want to. The other issue is whether or not to ask him for a rec letter. I only need (and probably can only submit) 3. I currently have 5 people willing to write me one, two of whom are very close with the profs I hope to be my advisor. Nitpicky advisor is quite well known in his field but it’s an area i don’t intend to pursue. However, He’s written me letters for other opportunities and has been the most helpful with grad school things. Oddly enough, he also knows more about my family than my team (the two girls)
I’m quitting the sorority (if they let me stay in the house next year). It’s too much. This really pissed me off. They require us to help build the booth (tbh, it’s kind of fun and manual labour = NEAT) and fine us $5/required hour if we miss. The fine was annoying, especially since other orgs don’t have them. Well… I’m informed thursday that we were JUST AS BEHIND as all the other ppl, except that we have tk pay the fine . Yesterday was “move on” and we’re required to help from 3pm to 8pm. Before learning that the fines were useless (wasn’t too surprising given Gneezy’s paper), I was actually going to help. Well… I ended up sending the president a message that I quit and spent the afternoon in seminar and went over to Econ discussion friend’s place to watch a movie.
Aside from that, the sorority is increasingly trying tk “improve social standing” (ie being more like a stereotypical sorority). One thing that especially bothered me was that they aren’t willing to do events with the Jewish frat bc the Jewish frat “isn’t cool”. The members of the Jewish frat are the kindest and most supportive ppl I know. The president was a loyal member of Econ research club and really supported me when I struggled in classes and with my self esteem in Econ.
