Anna's Training Log Part 2 (Part 1)

Hm; I disagree. I’m pretty sure it’s because you are strong…

Edit: Congratulations on the life successes, too. You’re at an exciting point in your academic career, and it’s nice to read that things look promising!

On a separate note, regardless if I get into UCSD or not, I’m going to have to find a way to thank Gneezy

It seems like every time I have a question, he has a paper. Also, his strategy of collecting economists to write beautiful models is nothing short of inspiring. I hope to one day be collected as an economist and collect computer scientists

As a computer scientist, I confess I find this statement disturbing, haha!

I want to tie ethics into algorithmic game theory and/or play around with simulation.

I don’t have the time or mental capacity to learn the CS required. If I get into Harvard, I’ll have access to the folks across the street

Week 4: Day 1

Squats: 1x10-50, 1x8-60, 1x6-70,80; 2x3-90
Deadlift: 1x6-60,70,80,90, 100, 110!!!
lying leg raises: 4x12
Snatch grip DL: 4x6-70kg

  • not a lot of work, took 90 min LOL  very very very disappointed with squat but happy w/ DL,

Update:

  • my productivity has been taking a very big hit since the stuff with econ friend started. I’m getting everything I ever wanted, but something feels off. It’s also a problem bc it’s junior year and I need to be doing research. Some part of me can’t let go of something my friend (that one) said: “Relationships aren’t something I’m looking for in my college experience”
My team is giving me flak about this. it’s quite funny actually. They’re the best

  • I’m increasingly confused academically. My boss and I spent about an hour discussing my grad school plans. He is strongly “team econ”. That makes 4 (him, my friend (that one), econ discussion friend and first econ professor (who also did behavioural)). I’m inclined towards econ, but I am not confident that I have what it takes to get through an econ programme, even after a 2 year predoc to catch up on maths. Even though those on “team econ” think I’ll be fine, I’m still unsure. Also, I likely won’t get to do much research until after qualifying exams. Anyways, I’m speaking with Loewenstein on Tuesday. I guess I’ll do what he says. With any luck this will get him rambling for a while

Give it a go anyways. WORST thing that can happen is you fall short. I know I know….that’s like…a large portion of where your worries lie, but literally you’ll be okay.

Not gonna tell you not to fret, because that’s easier said than done, but do be present in all of the uncertainties.Tap into yourself. Make space for other things.

I’ve been gone for seemingly ever, but could I get a run down of the goings-on?

Sesh looked good though. Maybe a handful of months ago I threw an absolute fit over my squat as well. Just wasn’t where I wanted it to be. Had a rough week altogether though.

Hi Cyber, nice to hear from you!

I have to pass qualifying exams… A lot of ppl who make it in on a weak foundation don’t make it out.

I audited a grad class and connected with a classmate. He likes me and I like talking to him about econ and various econ ideas (exactly what I’m looking for). We’ve gone on a couple of “dates”. He’s really a great guy, but I don’t see this going on beyond undergrad. At the same time, I really enjoy this experience since this is the first time someone has ever liked me. It’s doubly nice with this guy because he understands what I mean (and enjoys) when I frame things that should be “romantic” in economic terms.

Background: My friend (that one) is a guy I met in econ research club. He’s a brilliant economist and is the reason I’ve pivoted more towards maths. I “liked” him in the sense that I valued his abilities, but not him as a person (he’s a great person but completely incompatible). I still value his opinion highly and hope that we can write a paper together someday, provided we stop bickering for long enough to get things done.

My team is two girls who are my best friends.

Thank you hun! I enjoy stopping by.

I understand. I just meant that in terms of helping relieve some stress. Perspective-wise and all that. All in all do you feel you’ve prepared well at least? Personally, I think you’ll do great.

That’s dope though. Focusing on the experience is like RIGHT up my alley I’m terms of what I take from interacting with others. And I understand your feelings toward the individual though.

Aww! Lol. Can understand. My childhood friend/sister from another mother moved back to Texas after living in Maryland for 4 years.

Her and I absolutely wreak havoc together, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m super laid back, but she’s definitely a hot head, but I love her all the more.

Not to say we don’t bicker either. Guess it’s just the “comes with the certain friends deal” lol.

Not at all lol :joy: My quant background is weak…

That’s so nice!!!

I’m definitely the hothead here. He keeps me in check.

What’s happening is those good mornings sneaking up on you. A part of your body’s response to hard training is inflammation. You push harder:it swells bigger.

I’m struggling to get my wedding ring off in the morning these days. My whole body is pretty swollen.

Week 4: Day 6 (crap testing)

End of the second 4 week cycle is what I like to call “crap testing” basically you do singles at 100-105% of 1rm.

Squat: work up to 100kg for 2x1, grindy but pretty happy

Bench: worked up to 60kg for a set of 2 paused, then said F it and threw on 70- failed horribly. Still pretty happy

That’s all I’m doing today. I felt crap but still hit 100kg on squat for 2 singles. Can’t complain

next 3 weeks are more or less a deload. I’ll be ramping up conditioning before taking a proper deload the last week (week 4) before testing.
I’m pretty confident in 110 on squat, 130 on deadlift and 65 (paused this time) on bench at 47kg (I’ll be doing minicut

For testing are you going to be doing it like a meet? As in 3 attempts at all lifts?

Yes. 95%, 100%, 105-110% depending on how I feel
