Anatomy and Physiology

What is the best medical anatomy and physiology book money can buy. Money is no object. I’ve heard of Netter’s Atlas of Human Anatomy and Moore’s Essentials of Anatomy are good. What kind do you guys have?

Do to my artistic background, I have a HUGE interest in the human anatomy. I even got to take part in a dissection of a cadaver at a friend’s class (she was studying to become a nurse). THAT was extremely informative. No wonder Leonardo performed human dissection on cadavers during his day. Anyways, I say check out your local university or art school. See if they offer a “Anatomy for Artists” course. I took one in '97. Best damn class I ever took. Our instructor was not only a very good artist, but she had a nursing background. Once a week for three hours we would study ONE muscle group of the body and would draw that muscle group via a live model. I miss that class.

How about some of AC Guyton's books? Like Basic Human Physiology or Function of the Human Body? There's a book called Physiology of Exercise for Physical Education...by De Vries. I remember seeing it, but didn't sit down and thoroughly read it. And there's the books for artists: Some of which I do have. By David Rubins, "The Human Figure: Anatomy for Artists." S.R. Peck, "Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist" One book I'm looking for: "A Handbook of Anatomy for Art Students" by Arthur Thomson. My instructor had it, and it is "stuffed" with information. If you find it, let me know! I'd love a copy!

I hope this helped. But I betcha some of the T-Dudes on this site can provide you with better information.

In a similar vein (ha, nice pun, eh?), does anyone know of a good correspondence course or Internet only class (for college credit) on Anatomy & Physiology and/or Medical Terminology.

Netter’s Atlas is good, but it covers everything. I would look for a book that is more focused on the musculoskeletal system rather than every aspect of the body.

It is rare to combine A&P in a true medical level text. But Clemente’s Anatomy and Grays are good for pure anatomy. Guyton’s text on Physiology is good too. My favorite physiology book is Exercise Physiology the one written by Brooks, Fahey, and White.

Gray’s Anatomy is what we use in medical and pharmacy school, and it doesn’t get more detailed than that text in my opinion.

Moore is alright but only adresses anatomy. Ive got it and never use it.
People say Marieb’s anatomy/physiology is too basic but I love it, it explains stuff so simply it makes my dick hard. Its a great book if you struggle to stay focussed with the long winded books.
Guyton is good. Martini is also good.

Besides the great Muriel’s book already mentioned, I also like Marini & Bartholomew 2nd edition Essentials of Anatomy & Phsiology. Gray’s is good, but probably above most people’s head, Netter is a g-d (an artisitic g-d), but pricey.
