Hey i have a stupid question. I hope im not messing up my induction phase… I take a coffee every morning, with a pack of sugar twin, which i just realised contain dextrose. The nutrition fact says 0 carbs, but the ingredient says there is dextrose. Should i be worried about that, or is it simply counted as of my 30g of carbs per day? The pack is only 1g. So i guess its only 1 carb? I just read on an other thread to stay away from free sugar jello since it contain aspartame, so im a bit worried now… Yeah that sounds stupid i know.
I’d venture to say you’re good. I’d also cut that out though.

I take Zinc and Magnesium before bed. I’ve noticed very mild sleep aid if any. Some people say it really helps put them out though.

I started the Anabolic Diet on June 16th, today being July 4th, this is my 19th day.
I weighed around 207 when I started the diet. Today I weighed about 209 in the morning (coming out of carbing up this past weekend. I definitely feel and look leaner in the mirror.
I go to a holistic doctor, and she tracks me BMI and weight etc. On May 29th I weighed 223lb, and had 22.1% Body fat. On Monday, (5 weeks later) I weighed 216.5lb (all my clothes on, different scale) and had a 20.3% body fat. Keep in mind I was eating complete shit and was basically sedentary until June 16th. I am assuming most of this progress was made since I started dieting exercising.
My question is, at what point would it be reasonable to see a more consistent drop in actual scale weight? It just seems strange that although I have lost a lot of fat(think) and probably gained some muscle (been training 4 days a week, about 1-1.5 hours a session including HIIT after lifting) that I am 2lbs heavier than when I started 2 weeks ago.
Stay the course, or make some adjustments?
Thanks!
you have to ask yourself this. losing fat, gaining muscle, who cares what the scale says?

x2 Sugar free jello is fine and so sugar substitutes are fine too.

Yup, best thing I’ve ever taken for sleep. Only thing that helps me feel relatively rested in the mornings.

had to cut the carbup short a couple meals. went right back to pro/fat meals. i much prefer bacon, eggs, steak, and sausage over pizza and junk now. fucking weird. if you put a bowl of roasted pecans and a sandwich in front of me, id probably pick the pecans.
unless workout performance takes a serious decline i cant see myself carbing up every weekend either.
Wouldn’t that affect your muscles?
they would get flat as shit from no carbs, but im not losing any strength, im gaining, so i cant see any downsides.
I’m getting stronger too and even though i do carb-ups i feel like i’m shrinking lol. little weird because everything is in line and i’m eating 4000 cals a day. I thought that if you wouldn’t do carb-ups your body would canabalize the muscles?

while in a bulking phase trying to gain muscle, you probably will compromise your efforts in the gym by skipping carbups if you get completely glycogen depleted. and without the weekend ANABOLIC time from all that insulin lol hence anabolic diet. but if youre having shitty workouts without carbs then i think every weekend and even a midweek carbup would benefit.
for extreme fat loss though, while just maintaining your muscle i dont think skipping a carb up would hurt. and thats where intra-workout BCAA’s come in to prevent catabolism.

Yah, I dont think youre at risk for muscle loss. I would have at least something like 300g carbs every other week just to make sure T4–>T3 conversion doesnt get backed up. Also, after doing a little (little) reading on the subject it seems like carbs AND total calories play much more of a role than carbs alone.
Well I’m on day 19 and never experienced that crash that I know of. Not sure why??? I hope I made the shift! Maybe it’s because I went from a calorie deficit and next day added 750+ cals daily? First week only went for 1 5K run and 1 HIIT to make the transition easier but felt great on both. Took it easy the rest of the days.
Only day I felt odd was the first day with all the fats, my stomache was aching part of that day. First carb weekend was good but felt tired for a couple hours after fruit and oatmeal smoothie for breakfast. Other than that I seemed level.
9 days ago I dropped my calories back down by about 650 and am starting to firm back up again. Thank goodness! Seeing more definition in midsection again and less jiggly, hopefully I’ll have some great progress on this AD. Workouts still going well, endurance seems just as good as before and no lack of strength even with my HIIT’s.
I do have to say I have been sweating like crazy. Did some yard work 2 days ago and sweat was running down my body and face like I was in a sauna! Couldn’t bend over without my shades filling up with sweat.

300mg per Meadows recommendation.
I’m going to have to try this. I don’t sleep well, and a hard time falling asleep. Bought some Melatonin with herbs a few days ago. How does this stuff compare.
Do you guys take this at night before bed? I was reading about it today and talks about increasing seratonin during the day and melatonin at night (light/dark outside) and some people take in the morning and helps both moods and sleep at night but IDK, just what reviews were saying.
I was taking HGH from Fountain of Youth just before I started AD. The melatonin in there really made me sleepy and you take it 30 min before bedtime. I stopped though because I wasn’t sure if this would help at all with the AD or adversly affect it??? Still have a full bottle left. Not sure if it helped but it did make me sleepy and MAY have helped with endurance/recovery.
Webseeker- can you post a link to that Reconstructing the Anabolic Diet part 2? I’ve searched but can’t find it. I’d like to read the info about controlled carb ups and want to apply it this weekend. I tried to follow what you posted by what I thought that may mean last weekend.

If you’re starting to look like you did before the weight gain, I really think you just started holding water for some reason. Such dramatic fluctuations in actual fat dont usually happen like that.
The sweating is normal and usually wanes as the week goes on. Reason is glycogen stores water with it and is used up through out the week until you’re depleted.
Melatonin would be fine for AD. You can take 5htp for those reasons but I like it for restful sleep so I take it on as empty of a stomach as possible, eat last meal 30 mins later then go to bed about 30 mins after that. It doesnt knock you out or make you groggy though.
Hey all…day 6 for me. Happy to have a forum to share experiences. I worked the first week into a deload week and have just been doing unmeasured F/P meals when I feel hungry to help the transition. A little sluggish but no cravings or “flu-like” symptoms so far. Crossing my fingers. Monday I’ll get back to training and calculating macros. Did you guys follow the 18x bodyweight cals 60/40 F/P in the induction? That seems a bit high for my maintenance. I’m 5’7", 170 @ 8-10% BF.

Yes. From memory look up what you were eating and see if you were close to at least 60% fat. If so no problem. Try for 65% fat for the rest of the induction… I tried doing what you are but logged what I was eating one day and was hitting closer to 60% protein and not enough calories so I started over. But you may be fine.

I probably did more. I ate the shit out of everything that was Fatty and full of protein. Made the transition easy.

ive been taking 200mg for a couple nights and i feel a bit more refreshed in the morning and im waking up earlier without an alarm clock. only problem is still falling asleep takes forever. im thinking i need to get on some phosphatidylserine to lower night time cortisol now. ugh, so many supplements.
also started on 300mg coQ10 to try and get some more fat burning action going on. i was watching some of bryan walsh’s stuff and i think my main problem is simply my cells arent getting enough oxygen and my body is too acidic.
greens+ daily detox is working for alkalinzing and coQ10 hopefully for mitochondria power/energy/whatever.
ALSO taking a thermogenic now. rivalus mpower. “Grows the number and size of mitochondria or the powerhouse of the cell. Contains raspberry ketone which is a natural and effective compound used to burn fat. Improves mental focus with ingredients such as ginkgo biloba.”

I was a fat kid growing up and always struggled with fat. In just a couple weeks I can really pack it on, it sucks! May have been water IDK, but sure looked and felt like fat. Just before AD I was at 30p/50c/20f so I should have held water then with all the carbs if any but again IDK for sure, either way hopefully I’m past it.
I had also lost most of the vascularity in my arms as well, it’s finally coming back this week though and a bit better pronounced than just before AD.

Cool thanks! The thing I hate about Melatonin is I have a hell of a time waking up and getting out of bed in the morning and drag ass for a few hours. Sometimes I’ll sleep through the alarm, so although it helps it also hurts me.
