I was wondering… Is it ok to carb up on wednesday/saturday instead of saturday/sundy? Or do we have to stay on low carbs for at least 5 day IN A ROW?? I know Dr D said we can have a mid-week carb up meal, but is it ok to have a full day carb up? Is there any chance i get kicked out of ketosis if i go with a 3/1/2/1 fat/carbs routine for a long period??

Personally I feel that’s a departure from AD. I’m not saying it couldn’t be effective, however, I wouldn’t call it AD anymore.
Yes, there is a very good chance you’d be kicked out of ketosis.
For you in particularly, I like Maf’s idea of going to a 24 hour carb up. Try that out for a month and see what happens. It could be just the thing that makes this diet effective for you.
Cheers,
JK
alright man, I’ll stick with the 1 day carb up for now… and i will read the Metabolic Diet Book AGAIN because i probably missed something. Is it possible that this diet will never work for me, no matter what i do, no matter what i eat? Dr. D said “STICK WITH IT, and it will works”!!! How long should i stick with it? I got fatter and fatter days after days… This diet is supposed to burn fat. This diet is supposed to get me lean, and show my abs, not to cover them with fat. This is really getting on my nerves and i kinda feel depressed. I’m an ectomorph, i never been in this situation before, i never been able to gain fat, even if i wanted! and since i started this diet all i got i fat and love handles… Never got love handles of my life this is pathetic. I can’t even see my abs anymore. I wonder what my cholesterol looks like.

That’s how Rob Faigin’s Natural Hormonal Enhancement diet works, and Poliquin does his carb up every four days.

Word to that. I was trying to remember Rob’s last name! I still need to read Natural Hormonal Enhancement.
Did you know Poliquin aligns his carbups with variations in the lunar calendar?
… just kidding… I do like the guy
Best,
JK

HAHAHAHAHAH!
Could my problem be gluconeogenesis?? Since i try to cut on cal and fat (maybe a bit too much) to lose bodyfat, and do not eat carbs, maybe my body need fuel and make glucose from protein via gluconeogenesis, resulting in a insulin spike and body fat gain. Is that make any sense? I know, im getting paranoid but i try to figure this shit out.
No, glucogenesis itself wouldnt cause an insulin spike.
Hello out there in the land of muscle and might.
Im starting this diet today, another brother on the wagon.
A little about me: I got out of the Army SOF community back in July 2010 now I’m a security contractor. Being a contractor and overseas a lot my diet is herandous. I gained 15lbs of fat. So I’m here to loose it and be held accountable.
I’ll be posting my progress on Fridays, every Friday.
My stats:
Height: 5’11
Weight: 206lb…
My training overview.
I train 4 days a week.
Daily template for reference.
- Warm up
- Explosive movement
- 5/3/1 planed from his book.
- Finisher/WGPP
- Conditioning
Off days I do 5 pull-ups every time I walk past a pull up bar. Working on a Marine base, that’s very often.
My body composition goals in order:
- Loose 15 lbs of fat
- Gain 20 lbs of lean mass
- Look great nekid for my honey moon in 3 months.
I fully relize that is a pretty tall order. That’s why there in order. Loosing the 15 lbs of fat is my number one priority. I’ll worry about the lean mass gain a little later.
Welcome BOSS. You’ll be able to make some good progress towards your goals in 3 months! Keep us updated!
5/3/1 rocks on this diet.
JK
Thanks JK
Can you all point me in the right direction for more info about this diet. I’ve read everything I could find.
Friday progress report:
Considering that this was my first day, I’m feeling pretty good.
Protien and fats.
Ate a little too much of my nuts/seed mix (almonds, brazil nuts, flax seed, sunflower seeds, filberts). Went over the 25g carb limit by 10g. Kinda pissed of. So I simple ran a 8:00 mile, in the attempt to compensate for my mistake.

Haha, you would have been fine.
@JK
What’s up with Poteet? Everything alright with him? I know he’s busy but havent seen him around anywhere lately…
@ Everyone
Next time you get bloodwork would any one mind getting their RT3 aka Reverse T3 checked? Your doc probably wont want it done but you could always check it off yourself ![]()
Edit: Should probably just have mentioned I’m wondering what every one’s levels would be considering there is a bit of evidence behind low carb diets incresing RT3 (which blocks regular T3 from working).
Hi guys. I just finished reading the Anabolic Diet but I cannot find any training recomendations from Dr. D. I see a lot of people using 5/3/1 but, being a CKD would you not use some kind of depletion workout? In the book I only saw mention of training on mon and tues. what about the rest of the week?

No need for a depletion workout. Train how you like.

I do a HIIT training on friday, to make sure im fully deplated before i start my carb up on saturday. Your body no longer relies on glycogen for energy so you are not completely deplated on friday and you do not want to lay fat down during the carb up. As for the rest of the week i train monday, thuesday, thursday, heavy weight, kinda bill starr’s 5x5 routine. No training during the carb up, i just eat and fill those muscles. Deplating your glycogen as soon as you get it replenished is not very relevent. Keep that glycogen for the week, you’ll need it. Well, thats actually how i do now and it works great. Cheers
@MAF14: He’s been pretty damn busy at his work. I’m sure when things slow down he’ll be back in the saddle.
@swagola: When I was in my fatloss phase I was doing fasted SS cardio in the mornings on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and sometimes Wednesday. With the intention to deplete glycogen in the front of the week. I could see a HIT style training session on Sundays helping in this regard.
I also like to train on my carb ups (Both Friday and Saturday) for pretty much the same reason as the guys on CBLing train before eating carbs. Not to mention it makes me feel jacked. I’m normally 6-9lbs heavier on the weekends, which I believe helps me lift bigger weights.
Personal Progress Update:
I’ve been on the Mass Phase for about 4.5 weeks now. I’m up in scale weight by about 4 lbs. Alot of that came the first 2 weeks due to a rebound effect. I’m eating on average 3600 calories a day. I do cycle this number, however, the average doesn’t change.
My strength in the gym has exploded over the last 4 weeks. My new magical strength supplement is food and it is glorious.
I’m still getting my intake from eggs, steak, ground beef, nitrate free bacon, coconut oil, fish oil, heavy whipping cream, cheese, and ground turkey. It’s an expensive diet to bulk on but I’m excited to gauge the results.
I don’t feel like I’ve gained much fat if any. I’ll be keeping rigorous caliper readings throughout the process.
Cheers,
JK
