An Uncommon Pursuit

Things are looking up even more. My wife got tired of me whining about my back and made an appointment with a super duper chiropractor.

Things done.

Skull adjusted -sphenoid bone: Makes my legs and hips work better. I don’t know why it works, but my legs and hips DO work better.

Neck and upper back: improved my shoulder strength, particularly the subscapularis. My rotator cuff strength has improved. Nerves were being impinged in the cervical spine. All that high bar squatting I used to do. Even better, I can activate the long head of my right triceps now. Now if the elbow tendinits will abate somewhat my bench should get better.

Hips: apparently my hips bones were counter rotated to each other. No I can feel my ass working when I walk and have more power in my step.

Right Bicep tendon: It was out of the groove. It’s been placed back in the bicipital groove and my Bench pressing should improve.

Calcium lactate and magnesium lactate “prescribed” to make muscle contraction and release more efficient.

It was worth all the crunchy sounds and catch-wrestling moves to feel this good.

I go back Wednesday for a follow-up.

The DC expressed absolute horror that I had been lifting weights in the structural condition I was in. Berated me the whole time. She was great.

Kalo Clinic - Sarah Kalomiros. Google it if you’re in the Bay Area. She’s worth the trip. Works with a lot with ultimate fighters in the area currently.

Did your chiro do craniopothy?
that is when they manipulate the bones fontanels in the skull
adjust your upper or lower pallete?

I find that is what helps me, sounds like she is an awesome Dr.

Pics are cool- I need to get on the band wagon with that too…
So you are two weeks out, its getting exciting

She sure does. Adjusted my skull for me - that weird butterfly bone that goes behind your eyes and comes out just below your temples - the sphenoid, I guess it is…

Wow… did she do an oil and lube job, change the filters Skidder?? Huh? Huh? Nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more eh!,… say no more mate!

Monty Python.

A nod’s as good as a wink to blind back, ay? Know what I mean, 'ay?, 'ay? Know what I mean?

I can’t count how many times I saw “And Now for Something Completely Different.”

i got my 6 month teeth cleaning today and at the end i asked for “a happy ending”. she just looked at me kinda confused. I guess it doesn’t work for all health professions.

by the way… awesome squat PR skid… you are ready!!

Way to go on the squat Skiddo. Lethal combination I think - magic powder and wonder woman!

Thanks formfunction. That magic powder is going to carry me through the meet for sure. I’m bringing a cooler of food as well.

I’ll do my best. I’ll need to enlist a friendly stranger to run the camera. My wife throws her hands up at any sort of exposure to technology. Assuming it comes before the meet.

First, great squatting.
Second, take pix of lifting, not the hot abz, makes the rest of us suck in our guts, more.
And about the quote, since I’ve started squating again I’m noticing a “pop” in my neck every now and then. Not painful, just there. This makes me think it may have to do with my high bar placement. Can definitely feel the bar pushing my upper trap into my neck when I get under it.

Thanks Hel - I did just like you said: I got intensely calm at the weights, frightening them with a monstrous unholy serenity such that they dared not go up.

Maybe I snap something for the TILF thread elsewhere? Best shave my ass first though. I guess the need for appreciation takes many subtle forms. And that’s spelled HAWT ABZ, brah!

I dunno if you’ve ever seen a chiro, but with as many insults as your body’s taken in the course of your service to our country, it may be something worth considering. DC’s are not all created equal though. Many are just mediocre according to mine. She’s certainly not guilty of being retiring and shy that one. One who also does soft tissue work is ideal.

Yup. I got the DC religion, brother!

Hel brings up an interesting point on trap squat issues

my right hand opens during back squats
nice right?
its a cervical nerve issue, but my neck is
well shot.

I was so interested in hearing about your chiro… I didn t’ notice you rocked it out on your squats nice work.

Just so we’re clear, not more “marching powder” for that dog, jeez…the cat’s good also…I was just gonna ask who’s out there in your area? T-Nation folks to get the pics of that sweet, sweet slinglet-SQUAT, I mean lifting pictures…I’m getting shaky just thinking about it…them, the…nevermind.

Oh yeah, f**cking great numbers.

2-18-2009
Bench operbers
135x8
135x8
185x5
215x3
225x1
245x1 (opener)
265xmiss
245x1
255x1
265x1 (2nd attempt)

DB floor Press
85’sx5,6,6,6,8 (pussed out, more weight woulda been good)

Triceps Press down (Elbows out)
40x8 (elbows in)
80x8
110x8 (elbows out)
130x8
150x8,8

Seated row
180 4x6

HS incline close grip press
140 3x10

2 scoops MMP. Not feeling it very much at all. Able to move quickly between sets and exercises however.

I screwed up on the bench. Actually I freaked out and didn’t stay tight. Haven’t taken 265 to the chest in a long time. I won’t get more than a second chance to hit it in Sacramento.

Shoulder’s back in alignment but it ain’t strong yet. Pressing has a different groove now. It’ll come along, but not in time to bench real big. I’ll take what I can get. I give myself the benefit of the doubt and say that I’m too soon after testing squat openers and too soon after my previous bench day. Had to fit it in today though because I won’t have time tomorrow (meetings, meetings, meetings) and then the evening has plans till 11PM. Putting it off a day will shorten my recovery week.

Put another way - if I’m good for 265 tonight, I can likely get it in comp on the first try.

Go here to find a provider:

http://www.icakusa.com/doctors/

and enter your state and city.

They often help people who believe they can’t be helped. Everyone I know who has taken Applied Kinesiology therapy has gotten immensely better quickly.

Got that old familiar feeling in my right shoulder again. I’m hoping the bicep tendon didn’t jump out of the channel at the top of the humerus on bench today…

Got adjusted again at the chiro, plus they made me do bodyweight squats in good form while they literally shocked my ass. Okay - not my ass, but down pretty close to it. Back feels better now.

Nice going Skidster! I’m guessing those records are in jeopardy buddy. Ya gonna take a little time off prior to the meet?
