went to a movie with the family tonight and then out to a hamburger joint that sells 1-lb hamburgers.

I had me one and surprised myself by getting around the whole thing. And a big ole milkshake (thanks for the suggestion eco).

I can’t help with the training but sure know how to get fat.

DeadLift
135x6 (stiff legged)
225x5 (overhand grip)
315x3 (")
385x3 (overhand w/straps)
425x7 (PR reps +1)

Rack pull (6" below knee)
465 3x3 (PR Reps +1)

Chest Supported BB row
146x8
195x6+2(rp)
175 3x8

1-Arm DB row
120 3x8

Standing ab pulldowns
120 2x15

Straight arm pulldowns (works abs too)
80 3x8

Good session. I prob could have done better if my back hadn’t been tired from yesterday. But 2 PRs ain’t too bad.

7 reps at 425, thats sic dude! You use an incline bench for the chest supported rows? I’ve never been able to figure out how to use a BB to do those just DBs

Thanks DZ. The last 3 reps were really challenging and I almost called it at 6, but I wanted a PR today…

The gym has a 6" and 7" box. I built up the boxes with 35 lbers until the height is right and set a flat bench on top. Bar goes underneath, of course, and I put 25’s on. I try to tap the bottom of the bench each rep.

Ahhh,OK, I get it. We have a bench I might be able to do that with.

I knew those 35’s were good for something

your gym sounds like my gym…I spend half my time there
“making” equipment…

your numbers are looking better and better

6 single 285 men on the manporn? That’s awesome.

technique question - what do you do for your grip on bench. Just trial and error and what works best, or are there some guidelines for hand placement. I havent found a grip Im happy with yet…

Thanks

I do best with my ring or middle finger on the power rings. Seems to distribute the stress more evenly across the involved muscles. One tip I saw on a Diesel Crew youtube video was to turn the elbows slightly in at the top after unracking the weight. The hand spacing varies with your wingspan though, and on which muscles you depend most for your pressing. I have to get my wrists as straight as possible, which means the bar rides pretty far down my palm which in turn tries to crank my elbows out. Still figuring that part out.

Note how adroitly I avoided the question of fat naked bachelors…

Taht’s cuz ahm in ur haid, steeling ur ideez.

Thanks, JW.

I’m getting used to the new routine. yesterday’s Deadlift session didn’t wreck me like last time.

I did have a lot of twinges down my sacrum that felt like my right hip was separating, but it actually felt kind of good. We got a new bed with a Tempurpedic foam cover and I think that helped quite a bit.

Looking forward to bench tomorrow. I’m feeling pretty solid. I’ve a bit more muscle in the important places and I’m feeling pretty strong. Down on the calories today since I’ve been busy with work, but I hope to make that up tonight. Chicken in the oven and a roast in the fridge - yeah!

I had a weird experience yesterday in the gym:

I was doing my rack pulls and over in the next squat rack was a fella doing his squats. At the end of my second set he told me “That’s a lot of weight” on the way to the drinking fountain.

All I could think of to say was “Not really,” because I’m posting my logs on a site frequented by people like Barry, Hel, heavythrower, QT, Bunny, maraudermeat, eco and BigJames to name just a few. I often feel like a kid going “VroomVroom!” in his little red wagon while the teenagers are out getting ready to drag race their hemis.

I guess “strong” is relative to the groups you frequent…

I know that feeling! Except I dont have a red wagon, I have a 2x4 nailed to a rollerskate!

tru dat. I tried to explain once “all the guys I look up to squat triple that”. they just dont get it. On the other hand, I don’t get why people are into cars. guess we all have our blind spots…

Hey MJ…maybe I’ll give you a reason why I am into cars: I am vain!

Vanity may also be one of the reasons I want to pull 600 lbs. I suspect I like to show-off my ‘strength’.

Not so long ago, I attempted 455 at my pansy gym. I could feel all eyes on me as I set up. One guy even remarked “That’s quite a bunch”. Well, I pulled it.

I still feel the air of respect whenever I run into those folks at the gym. If they only knew Eco, Hel and others are using the 455 to warm up somewhere.

Don’t know if you’re comparing yourself with the average “our age” lifters in here, Skid. I know they’re are people a lot stronger than all us but they’re not the norm. This is evidenced by the surprise people display when seeing us mature (at least physically) people actually put up some weight. A guy once told me, “you’re lifting a lot for your age.” I was in one of those moods so replied,“I’m lifting a lot for your age, too.” For the record, IMHO (been dying to type that for some reason)you, and everyone on here, are doing great.

Now that’s awesome, I hope my pea brain can remember that one.

My bench is well and truly screwed. I barely got 255 for three off a two board and then could barely do 245.

My arms back and chest are the biggest they’ve ever been and I can’t even bench what I did 4 weeks ago.

Ever since I dropped high rep bench work my bench has gone into the crapper.

I may have to take a token bench in the comp because I don’t have a lot of time to turn this around. I can’t keep my right elbow tucked. It just keeps winging out on it’s own after three reps.

I’m so flipping frustrated I’m ready to pack it in on bench. I’ve been fighting this shoulder for 3 years now and I’m just done.

dude
you can work around this…
throw a mini band on your elbow in your last few weeks of training.

make the loop small but not too small that it makes tension
( use knots to shorten vs doubling)
and maybe that can help the elbow track properly

this is the shoulder you busticated earlier?
you can salvage it for this meet…
and rehab and improve for the future

sniff around and ask what the big dogs
say about competing injured
Most of the big big lifters are always banged up… and find ways to train around it.
