Americans Love MMA, BB is Dying

I’d bet 99 people out of a 100 couldn’t name the current Mr. Olympia, but Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, Rich Franklin would probably get 10/100 or even more. And building a huge muscular body for no purpose or to hide in is irrational.

So, goodbye bodybuilding. Martial art → building the SPIRIT!!!
HAHAHA hey man shut up, ive been training muay thai and some MMA for almost 8 years… and yeah it is hardcore, but BB is equally (maybe more) hardcore if you train properly. Those fighters you mention, very good fighters, and what do they have in common??? they do bodybuilding routines, thats why the are so hardcore and why they kick ass in the ring.

Americans are lazy, of course they like MMA more, they think it would be easier to try to punch and take down a guy, than to SQUAT , BENCH, DEADLIFT, every week… BB takes A LOT of discipline.

Martial arts of course require an incredible amount of discipline, but in a fight you might get lucky and win even if you didnt train well. But in BB there is no luck, you have to bust your ass just to be competitive.

So yeah, shut up man.

Americans Love Obama, Republican Party is Dying

Hey, I know many people here lift because they think it’ll get them more ass, but the fact of the matter is that girls prefer leaner guys with abs, who are athletic.

So if you do pump iron for these reasons, you’d be better off doing a martial arts.

This is a serious question since I may be too young to be familiar, but was bodybuilding as a SPORT ever that mainstream? MMA is becoming mainstream, kinda like basketball or football (except not at that level yet). And that is why kids are flocking to mma gyms, but i don’t think its taking away from kids lifting weights, or ‘bodybuilding’.

Oh, and i don’;t think the word ‘hardcore’ is only reserved for fight training. I think a lot of bodybuilders workouts would be classified as ‘hardcore’ even though they are building their body, and not learning how to defend a takedown.
True, bodybuilding got popular in the way weight training became mainstream. bodybuilding as a competitive outlet was always a niche activity.

Lest not forget that bodybuilding started the ENTIRE fitness industry that we see today. MMA is the new kid on the block. I was into it but now i think it sucks. Short fights, plenty of hype, all end with love making on the ground. Boring. It made me get very interested in boxing again. Seems more noble or something.

I see the MMA dieing down in the future. Martial Arts have a way of firing up the imagination of boys and men. What boy didn’t love karate and kung fu? Is it any wonder the new generation loves their version of martial arts? Nope, it’s all just history repeating itself in a circle.

I think it’s the fact that when a country is out of touch with it’s roots, and people. They need an activity, that doesn’t cost very much, and you can participate. Yes, not everyone can throw a punch correctly, but everyone can always throw a punch. Not everyone can compete with Ronnie Coleman.

Victoria’s Secret models are more well-known than both BBers and MMAers. Are you going into lingerie modelling too?

HH, you motivated me to finally post on a forum.

Stop posting on forums/trashing bodybuilding lol your thread ideas are terrible.

since you’re surrounded by so many intelligent people in your family, how about you go antagonize them?

oh man thanks so much for clearing that up. I’ve just been chilling in the gym lifting weights for years so I didn’t know, I’m not actually going to go out and find out a girls opinion on the matter until i’m olmypia stage ready. Yeah of course the girls would be more impressed by my ability to hurt other guys than if I was just big and ripped. And, although being a less effective form of exercise compared to training purely for looks I know that using a martial arts style of training will mean I won’t blow up into a ronnie coleman overnight.
And I’m so glad you included a picture of the ideal physique, I mean I thought all that shit was relative but you proved me wrong, thanks…

But seriously, how easy do you think it is to look massive? Training naturally most people will never look freakishly big, if someone is lifting purely for the girls then why would martial arts be better? It would just be a slower way to achieve a slightly worse physique. And yeah, you’d know how to fight, but I don’t live in downtown bagdad, the amount of times I’ve needed to fight in my adult (and teenage) life could be counted on one closed fist.

You never know where or when it’s going to kick off, even if you don’t go looking for a fight. When you’re waiting for a bus, at the mall, having a pint at your local, anywhere, i’ve seen it. And it doesn’t matter how big you are, if the guy knows how to fight, you’ll get your ass handed to you. Period.

And in general it’s better to have a decent physique, be in excellent condition and know how to fight than just have a useless heap of muscle. Having the ability to handle yourself definately increases real self confidence, Ever since I started training muay thai I walk tall everywhere I go cause it’s really satisfying that I know I can kick ass or at least handle my self anywhere I go.

And girls love self-confidence in a man. And tbh bodybuilder types just scream low-self esteem. That turns them off big time. Because they know it’s the pursuit of insecure guys who think they can make up for their lack of height and facial shortcomings.

You’ll probably realize this forty or fifty years down the road. But you may not make it that long, because you’ll be in Subway some day, getting a Meatball Mozzarella, and BAM. In walks Brock Lesnar and he just wants to FIGHT! Because, you know, fights just start anywhere.

GTFO, this is by far the dumbest thing I have read on these forums, and that’s not easy to accomplish. At best your argument would make you a hypocrite, seeing as how you have to validate yourself by knowing you can “kick ass” in case things just happen to “kick off”.

I don’t walk around the streets looking for fights. But like I said, next time you go to a bar there maybe some drunk guy there just waiting to kick your ass. Next time you take a short cut home, you could get mugged. In these circumstances it’s always useful to know how to fight.

Who do you think a girl will feel safer and more comfortable around, An athletic ripped guy who can actually protect her, or some over-grown milk chugging meathead who likes to shave his chest and pose in thongs?

But hey, if you want to look like a bodybuilder that’s fine, that’s an issue between you and your psychologist. But just don’t be surprised when you next go to the beach flexing and what not and all the chicks turn away in disgust and admire the surfers instead.

I agree with the OP when he said BBs just hide behind their muscles. They are delusional when they think it makes them look bold and tough, because it doesn’t. Just the other week I got into a fight with a bodybuilder type at a bar in town. He was cocky, very arrogant and thought his size meant he was untouchable and was just being a prick in geenral. He squared up to me and threw the first punch, but he couldn’t fight for shit, he was too bulky, slow and wasn’t trained for it.

A personal experience with a couple of “bodybuilder types” doesn’t justify saying that they are examples of the norm. Just as you’re definitely not an example of the norm when it comes to guys who train/compete in combat sports. You almost exemplify the stigma that guys who are serious about combat sports try to avoid.

I can understand the boost in confidence you have gained…but a boost in confidence doesn’t pick up where intelligence, common sense, and humility fall short. But you are young…so I understand…somewhat.
