Americans Love MMA, BB is Dying

Besides, if your bodybuilding because it’s popular you’re probably not all that serious about it. I’d continue training my body even if no one else did.

This is my point. I distinctly remember Headhunter’s activity in an old thread about DC training. He was enthusiastic about it and talked about how much he liked the core philosophies. Last time I checked… DC is for bodybuilders. Pure and simple.

Yet, he’s now denouncing bodybuilding, like he’s got the last say. “Aw shucks, hun. Headhunter just said Bodybuilding is dead. Guess we better do MMA now.”

When, in actuality, he’s just a moronic, hypocrital, extremist douchebag.
While doing DC, I was also getting 4th Dan (4th blackbelt to those of you in Rio Linde). One sport for body, one for mind.

Pure bodybuilding is dying. Most do it to LOOK strong and tough. But what if there is no substance behind the ‘LOOK’? Is the goal to look capable without becoming capable?

One bodybuilder on T-Nation has said over and over how much he wants to impress others when he walks in the room. Is that the goal, to gain self-esteem by using others as a mirror?

hah, you know it was. It’s HH, he constantly tries to justify his inadequacies by posting this garbage in the bodybuilding forum.

I won’t deny this. In fact, the human is one narcissistic animal. Of course it’s going to do things to enflate its ego, and making it feel good.

Similarly, MMA-guys like to beat the shit out of each other, and that’s what makes them feel good. Obviously, the winner has an ego rush, and the loser gets more motivated. This is also motivated by narcissism and the ego.

I’ve never heard of anyone doing MMA or all that stuff because ‘It’s a great way to meet new friends!’ No, it’s a great way to feel like a badass. Some people feel like a badass lifting shit loads of weight - Accept the fact that people have different interests than you.

Let’s be honest, you just wanted to stir shit up now that the site’s recovering from the fallout of the last three weeks.

How many really muscular have you seen or met not been strong? Sure the goal of a bodybuilder is to LOOK strong, but once they accomplish that goal you can bet your ass they will be strong motherfuckers too. Even flex wheeler, long criticised for growing with 20 pound dumbbells, could pound out 180kg on the bench for reps.

Nope. I hope Mod Brian will confirm this btw. It was put here because I actually have no interest in trashing bodybuilding. Simply pointing out that BB and MA are two sides that, synergistically, would be ideal.

Average americans are also largely a poor, debt-ridden, obese, unattractive and uneducated people.

Yes, I TOTALLY agree we should care about what they are interested in lol.

Just another troll job. Why are you guys even responding to this obvious bullshit statement?

It always strikes me as odd that people think muscular guys are incapable of defending themselves. It almost seems like more people are afraid of skinny guys these days because they have nothing outwardly intimidating about them so they MUST be bad ass fighters…pleaseeeee

Yah this is a dumb thread…If any sport is suffering from MMA success it’s boxing…MMA is way more exciting then boxing…They don’t dance around for 12 rounds.

I’m not really an MMA or boxing fan…Something feels wrong about people beating the shit out of each other for money.

I still watch it every once in a while with one eye open…

Good.

And I’ll betcha the next big thing is going to be rock-climbing.

Let’s see, we’ve had snowboarding/skateboarding, bodybuilding, and fighting all as specialized fad activities, so I’m just trying to follow the logical path.

Maybe it’ll be extreme kayaking.
I don’t think rock-climbing will ever become popular, it’s not that great of a spectator sport. Kind of like bodybuilding and power lifting. Fun to do but boring to watch.
Is anyone on this site into bouldering? great for your grip

Well, HH is indeed a moron. But there is some truth to the statement that BB is losing out to MMA.

Of course… How many people “into” MMA even get a BJJ blue belt; ever have a fight; or even train consistently for years?

Guys come and go into the gym. There might be 10 of the same guys in the gym after a year. The rest are just people who come in, get lazy, and leave.

So even if people are more “into” MMA, it doesn’t matter. They are slackers who quit. Just as the slackers here who don’t even lift weights.

America = TV watchers.

What exactly is the point of this thread? What point is trying to be made here?
I think the person that said comparing this is like comparing apples and chicken.
They are two totally seperate topics. Why are we arguing the public popularity of this? What exactly is to be gained here?

and to HH…You have go navy on your avatar why?

Bodybuilding was never at the same level. Hell, it’s not even at the same level as boxing or golf- it’s more of a cult then a niche sport (not that there’s anything wrong with it, it’s just not popular.)

That being said, he’s comparing apples and oranges.

More like apples and tomatoes.

 1. Bodybuilders want to look hardcore while martial artists (esp MMA) actually want to BE hardcore.

 2. I think that this is a big reason why most young men head straight for MMA and laugh at bodybuilders.

 3. MMA fighters are actually sometimes in the mainstream media.

 4. I’d bet 99 people out of a 100 couldn’t name the current Mr. Olympia.

 5. And building a huge muscular body for no purpose or to hide in is irrational.

 6. So, goodbye bodybuilding. Martial art → building the SPIRIT!!!
I name this post “How to lose 11k posts worth of credibility”

 1. You are saying that bodybuilders are not hardcore yet they spend 100% of their time at the task (and that ‘hardcore’ status is important)
 2. They do? says who. Also, who cares - young kids are dumb asses
 3. So were the gladiators whose purposes were to eventually be eaten by tigers for entertainment.
 4. I also have a credible statistic - 99 out of 100 people who ‘bodybuild’ or lift weights do not wish to become Mr Olympia or to look like him.
 5. And being big and strong has absolutely zero purpose other then for others to look at?
 6. See 2) - The rising tv popularity and the kids you reference are certainly NEVER EVER joining mma gyms for their spiritual value.

MMA is a spectator sport - since the beginning of time, men fought each other - thank you for telling us it is brand new and taking over the public consciousness.

You’re only saying this because you haven’t followed this site (or, at least, HH) for very long.

Headhunter hit rock bottom with his vibrator thread, and has since been trying to squirm his way even further down through the cracks with each and every subsequent post since.

Dude BB was never popular and never will be mainstream, because most people just don’t consider it to be a sport. Sports are synonymous with athleticism and BB just doesn’t require athleticism. Anyone who tells you it does is just blowin smoke up your ass.

MMA on the other hand is the fasting growing sport in the world and arguably one of the most exciting and physically demanding. It is only a matter of time before if completely dominates boxing and when it’s big money, it will attract many more gifted athletes.

The whole “Martial Arts” thing has been catching ALOT of flack lately. I just think to each his own. I personally do two a days. I work out in the gym early in the AM and train at my school in the PM and I work in between. I don’t care what anybody says, I think EVERYONE should know the basics of self defense because theres some messed up people out there.

Youre not ALWAYS going to have access to a firearm. BB’s shouldnt critize Fighters cause they know how to fight and Fighters shouldnt critize bodybuilders cause if your ACTUALLY a good fighter youre a bodybuilder as well. I think every sport has its jerks. I know plenty of bb’s who act like jerks and try to intimidate smaller guys just cause theyre bigger than everyone else.

But won’t mess with me cause I would whoop their ass faster than they could say deadlift. Then again EVERYBODY thinks theyre an mma fighter just cause they wear a TAPOUT shirt and they try to intimidate other people cause they THINK they can fight. I think you can learn from anyone and shouldnt shun them cause their interests are different than yours. Screw all the jerks and “KNOW IT ALLS” and just rock to youre own tune. BRUCE LEE was a bodybuilder. Case in point

My son has been accepted at Annapolis. He reports on July 1st. They accepted 8% of all applicants, btw. Unlike his dad, he is sane but DID inherit just enough lunacy from me to be absolutely excellent at mathematical proofs. He inherited his Physics ability (perfect 5 on AP Exam) from my mother, a physics prof refugee from Nazi Germany, and my wife who teaches science at a university. I am the only raving lunatic in the family as all the others are brilliant and sane.

Reminds me of what one of my colleagues wrote about a kid on his midterm report to parents: “Your son has hit rock bottom and has proceeded to dig.”

Actually, many of you have too little sense of humour and what there is of it lacks panache. I take it few here are familiar with Cyrano De Bergerac?
