Some Background:
I’m 65 years old and working out off and on since I’m a teenager and steady for the last few years.
I’m recently retired and in the gym 5-6 days a week. (Mostly 6 days) I do an Old School Workout (Since I am Old School) of Push, Pull, Legs workout hitting each muscle twice a week.
I do between 10 to 12 sets for the larger muscle groups per workout for a weekly total of 20 to 24. For smaller muscle groups I do 7 sets per workout with a weekly total of 14 sets. Workouts usually last between 1 to 1:15 minutes including abs.
My body fat percentage is 21% and would like to get to 15%.
All that being said all recommended workouts I see for losing body fat are usually doing 3 full body workouts per week with some cardio in between with much lower total sets.
Am I doing to much?
Yeah, are you recovering and making progress with the weights?
Are you about to add a bunch of cardio to the 6 day weights routine?
Are you about to start eating less?
Yes, every 8 weeks or so I do a deloading week. I do half the sets an don’t go to failure.
Yes, I’m recovering… see above. I’m not making much gains in weight. I usually keep the reps between 7 and 15.
As far as cardio, I currently don’t do all that much but just started walking for 30 minutes 2 times a week.
This is by no means that I’m a beginner when it comes to cardio. I’ve run 3 marathons and countless half marathons. I just want to get down to 15% or less.

Well there you go!
If you can lift, and do cardio and drop bodyfat while lifting 6 days a week, you’re not doing to much.
If you do all that stuff, and don’t drop bodyfat, or you can’t recover, then it’s too much.
A lot if times beginners go from no activity and shitty diets to tons of work, tons of cardio and low-low calories, so they crash burn out quickly. These people need to back off a little.
You’ve got tons of experience, so you probably know how to avoid those issues.
