Always Come Out Swinging

Brutal day of pulling…did 5 singles with 425 off the floor easily then decided to pull off a 3"block for as many reps as I could. Just couldn’t lock out the 8th rep. Still felt pretty good.

Fucking killer pulls brother…do you have an idea of your attempts for the meet?

Awesome! I haven’t done deficits for a while but I’m inspired.

I have no idea what my openers will be. I’m using this meet as a way to just establish a legit total. I’ll decide on openners the week before…they will be weight I can handle easily for a triple. My triples keep going up so we’ll see where they are I’m a month

So I’m officially a month out from the meet. I’ve never done this much volume and assistance work but over the last 12 weeks I’ve gotten significantly stronger across all my lifts.

The singles work began yesterday. Looking forward to smashing some PRs!

feeling grrrr is good.

your block deads are a hell of a lot prettier than mine

Nimain…then why do I prefer watching you pull?

Time to put the wraps on and get used to the groove change.

Cranked out 3 singles with 385lbs fairly easily. Followed by a few doubles with 315 without the belt or wraps.

I’ve been taping every top set of every workout for my coach…it’s proven to be a super effective way to correct form flaws. After this meet I’m dropping a few pounds back to 185…driven by the harsh reality of video.

Oh I love the videos. First, you’ve got a sick ass home gym! I think you’ve got a wider variety of DBs than a gym I go to. And I personally see nothing wrong with whatever weight you’re at, looking very solid in those videos, and great lifts too. Happy to hear all lifts are on the upswing.

One month! I’m excited for you!

Whats up bro, excellent squats…I just purchased wraps, you mention the groove change, Ive never used them before can you go into more detail with regards to what to expect…I imagine only using them when the weights get heavier for me, do you suggest possibly wearing them all the time to get used to em?

pulls looked great
squats plenty deep.

nice work.

I’ve been building up my gym equipment over the past 14 years. I basically add a piece a year now. A lot of my other stuff aren’t on film like my prowler and a few other pieces. Most plates and dumbells were purchased from a gym that went out of biz 5lbs to 150lb dumbells

On wraps, when worn correctly they want to force your legs into the locked position. What can happen is your legs will drive up before or faster than your lower back can keep up with and you’ll end up doing an ugly good morning. I am only now using the wraps one month out of the meet. Don’t use them year round or you’ll depend on them too much vs just getting stronger on your drive out of the pocket. I have healthy knees. The only reason I’m using them is because they’re allowed in the fed I’m doing. I’m wearing a belt and wrist wraps too.

Pulled out the prowler yesterday…looking to do medium conditioning sessions on off days. If we ever get snow in NY I’ll have to come up with a back up plan.

shhhhhh…it been real mild…dont jinx it!

dude— shhhhh on the snow…

Finally doing deadlift singles! Had to put the singlet on, thank God it still fits.

I have a strange relationship with the dead lift. I’ve never dead lifted over 525lbs in the gym but in my last 3 meets (over 5 years ago) I’ve pulled 550, 560, 570. It’s like I get the fight or flight response when I’m on the platform. Those were all done in deadlift only meets, we’ll see what happens during a full meet.

Today’s training

dead squats 285x1x4
dead lifts 135,225,315,405,455 (put belt on),475,505(first time over 495 in 5 years)
3" deficit pulls 405x1 405x2
Lat pulldowns, dumbell rows, shrugs

My Dad took me to see Conan the Barbarian when I was in elementary school…in retrospect it was totally inappropriate for me to be in that theater but “it was on” after seeing Arnold and Franco on screen. I always hear that theme in my head when pulling.

Enjoy and feel free to toss tomatoes at video below

Oh MAN is that an awesome video!!

Squats look awesome, nice depth!

And the deads, man with the lights and music it was like you were summoning the dead lift gods. Seriously, I’ll be watching this next time I need a pre-workout boost that doesn’t come in the form of a powder.

Is that a thigh sleeve (I don’t know what it’s called???). I like!

Nice work!

Thanks! My Polynesian thigh band still needs 2 more rings to be complete. Its my favorite tattoo. I was having fun with the music. Next week is all speed work with light weight. I love warming up for dead lifts with deep paused squats!

I never pay attention to other lifters at a meet when I’m competing. Except that I sit in the audience and watch the men DL when I’m finished. And if you pull without a shirt, you will not disappoint!

Kpsnap, I think you just bulked my head into the next weight class…thanks!
