@strongmanvinny2 I was actually just telling another guy at my gym about my first few times yoke walking and having a similar experience. I can actually remember posting it on here. I worked up to something like a very shaky 600 and I can remember you actually commenting saying something like, “I am sure that was an easy weight for you” and me thinking…This guy must be insane strong because that felt like it was going to kill me! Hahahaha now 2 years later I have walked 1,000lbs for 30 feet and have lived to tell the tale. It is insane how much better the yoke gets with practice. Hopefully, the 700 will speed up because it will need to if I want to finish even in the middle of the pack.

As far as the circus dumbbell, I know I am ok at it, but last year the top guys were doing more weight than this with a single arm deadlift between and were scoring in the double digits for both. I have a feeling, since it is so light, that the winner will be 15+ in the :60 second time limit. That is juts insanity to me, but I really appreciate the moral support, brother!

The next 100 days should be interesting. If i stick to the plan and have good days during the comp, I am hoping to finish better than last year. Only time will tell.

@anon50325502 I definitely need to get on this, hopefully it is not too late!

Absolutely remarkable last video clip. Conditioning huh?

@stronkfak That was nothing man. My plan was to walk in and hit 520 for 15, but my cos was just too beat up. I have done 405 for 20 numerous times. I even did the 22 Push-up challenge with 405 for 22 reps with the SSB bar. You will see more and more stupid stuff like this from me in the next 100 days to help build a little mental fortitude to go into Nationals with. The entire show is going to be a rep and run fest.

@biker Yep man, gotta get t in! And thank you!

STRONGMAN
Just some keg throws

Extra Did a bunch of pull-ups while taping for the answer to a question I will address on the video I plan on uploading tomorrow.

Just got the work in today. Someday’s that is enough. Just putting another brink in that wall I am trying to build.

I remember the SSB 405 x 22.It was the one you threw up if I’m correct
But still,a 405 x 20 is impressive no matter what, especially for someone that’s chasing that weight for a single

@stronkfak Yea man, puked my brains out after that. I really appreciate you saying that man!

FRIDAY, 22JULY2016 - Work For Today
Week 1/Day 5

CONDITIONING - Lots of Animal Walks…Like Lots.
I was waiting on a delivery to the gym that ended up not coming today and I didn’t want to get into anything in case it did…But it didn’t, so I just ended up doing lots and lots of animal walks…

Here is a quick clip of some of them
https://www.instagram.com/p/BILKwltjuIs/?taken-by=neversate

After I realized the deliver wasn’t coming, I moved onto strongman stuff.

Arm Over Arm Sled Drags
250x50 Feet
430x50 Feet
610x50 Feet

NOTES:
I wish I knew that the delivery wasn’t coming. I was planning on using it for part of the workout, but I will keep it a surprise for now.

  • HUGE news, Alan Thrall answered one of my questions on his Q&A today and it pushed a lot of new eyes to my channel. I and super grateful to him for that. And then we messaged a little bit directly and I am not going to give anything away right now, but some cool things may be coming in the future. Really, really stoked about this.

That is amazing man, I’m grinning ear to ear right now for you. I hope this is the break you needed for exposure. Your videos are leap and bounds more valuable than others who have 100,000 hits on youtube.

Oh, and you are MOVING on those animal walks! haha

I just checked out Alan Thrall’s youtube video (you made me aware of him, not the other way round lol). You definitely already have what it takes to become huge - his two main points seem to be about quality content and presenting it in an attractive style and you do both of those things very well. It strikes me that the key thing you are missing is just that initial boost in viewers from some sort of outside source. I really hope that this has done that for you, and that your subscriber numbers take off exponentially. I feel like it must be very difficult to hit that critical mass, but when you do things will just explode. Keep doing what you’re doing man, it’s awesome!

You broke a thousand subscribers and climbing…! Awesome. You and Thrall are totally birds of a feather -“pre-Internet” (I’m an ancient 54 lol) you’d probably be his mentor since IMO you are actually a more accomplished individual. (no offense Alan if you’re reading this LOLLL)

BTW, I viewed your diet tips video recently (I’m fairly lean so not high on my priority list) and that video should 100% be pushed out to the interwebz public a lot more because that tip about looking worse before looking better is something I think no one else talks about. Those diet tips would make a good TNation diet article…just sayin’.

-It’s good to know Thrall, who seems cool in his videos, really is cool.

-Your “bounding” looks pretty smooth! Do you have a specific plan for working on jumping? Or do you just make sure to bounce around often? I see lots of burpees and jumping jacks in your workouts.

I know absolute strength is the base of explosiveness, but you get SO much POP on your keg tosses and med ball throws.

Alan thrall is a HUGE deal. Fingers crossed!

@Benanything Time will tell, but this definitely couldn’t hurt!

@littlesleeper hahahaha thanks man, I am glad you were entertained!

@furo I think you are right, it is just about the critical mass, but hopefully I will hit that tipping point soon. Thanks for checking in man!

@punnyguy Thanks man, i just hope it gets in front of a lot of eyes and can help some people!

@FlatsFarmer He is seriously one of the coolest individuals I have ever met man. He is helping me a ton! As far as bounding, I just show it in as part of my conditioning. It has seemed to help my explosiveness some, but moe than anything else, it just gets my heart rate up there.

@barbedwired Yea man, he and I are working a few things out that could be huge for me. Time will tell!

“On one level, we believe we’re capable of great things. We see ourselves as heroic figures. But at the fist sign of stress, fatigue, and fear, that diminishing voice creeps in. our mind begins to work against us. That tiny voice grows in intensity and volume. We hesitate. We begin to doubt our abilities. Now that internal voice is so loud that we can barely make any sense of it. We second guess ourselves. We believe there is an inherent scarcity with regards to what might be possible. It is in that moment that the inner war is raging.” --Richard Machowicz

Hey man, hope that question isn’t too weird but I recently got a good space for my “own strongman home gym” in an old cheese factory. Really underground and not accessible to the public. I share the place with a group of other guys who give lessons in combat sports and train for fitness and strength there. Anyway I am looking to decorate “my corner” a little bit by hanging up pictures of my favorite strength athletes and people that inspire me and wanted to kindly ask if you are okay with me hanging up a picture of you? Again, hope that isn’t too weird but your log was the first thing that brought me to Tnation (one of your older ones to be precise). I used to only check the site for new articles and updates of your log (long before I became a member here) and still check this log and your youtube channel regularly. Since I have learned a lot from you and am inspired on a frequent basis I thought you might fit in with the other guy’s pictures on my wall.
I refer to a picture that shows you squatting, if that is of importance.
This would probably be more appropriate as a private question but I never figured that out.

Good luck with your preparation for nationals!

@Koestrizer Man, as long as I have pants on, I would be honored! Feel free to grab any images off of my website that you see fit! That’s pretty cool that you would think of me and like I said, i would be honored.

"An excuse starts as a protective measure. It shields us from pain, saves our pride, keeps our ego from getting punctured, allows us to obscure the brutal truth. That feels like a relief at first. We avoided the pain.

Then we lay another excuse on top of the first. Then another. Excuses make us feel safe. So we think, why not add another? Soon enough, you’re wearing excuses like a knight wearing armor…But how fast do you think you could run wearing a suit of armor? How well could you climb a mountain? How well could you swim across a lake? How well could you hug your kids?

Excuses protect you, but they exact a heavy cost. You can’t live a full life while you wear them." --Eric Greitens

NOTES:

  • That was it. I could have kept going, but my cos is so fried from those deadlifts that i would have been kind of pointless. When you are in a hole, the best thing you can do is stop digging…
  • Plus i am meeting up with some friends at another strongman gym this weekend to work on some of the Nationals’ events. Can’t be too run down for what we are working on.

On another note,

Just uploaded my latest Q&A Session, thank all of you who asked questions and if I didn’t answer yours, please just ask it again below and I will try to get to it next time. Really appreciate the support guys!

Just stopping in to let you know I really appreciate your videos, Bri. Your advice with training with some speed coming off the floor seems to have helped me move my DL. I really appreciate it. I’m doing a lot more conditioning as just a way to continue to be interested in my training and mix it up a bit. Whatever keeps me learning something new and moving forward is a win.

Hi alpha, glad to see you’re still smashing it as usual. I’m really enjoying the videos, the way your personality comes across on them is really funny, very unique and entertaining. Keep it up!

Ive recently made the transition over to a more fatty diet - lots of animals, oils and butter. However, my deadlift has suddenly dropped. All my other lifts have gotten better, just my deadlift that’s gone backwards. Is this a common thing? Cheers!

One last thing, on your site one of the pages, I think the merchandise one, it says paypay instead if PayPal.

Hey @Alpha are you cool with non-gym members wearing your gym shirt? I dig what you’re about and like the design you have. Didn’t want to misrepresent myself though as a member though.

Been watching your videos in my freetime. Really excited to hear about you getting together with Alan. I did 2 of his shows, and he was there when I tore my ACL. Nice guy; always helpful.
