Kix indeed! I saw them at (the now defunct) Hammerjacks in Buld’more! Used to hang out in Towson quite a bit too… And the Stone Balloon (DEL). I grew up in S.Jersey, interestingly south of Baltimore.

Next thing you’re gonna tell me is that you went to Skipjacks games, too! ;)
Kix is playing the M3 (I think that’s the name) festival at Merriweather Post Pavillion. Twisted Sister, Ratt and Extreme are headlining. I’m too cheap and lazy to go.

Never did the Skipjacks. My buddies and I would pay 5 bucks to sit in the nosebleeds at the Capital Center to watch Caps games once a week or so. You get a great class of people up in the nosebleeds.

Last Monday’s work (4/27/09)

Deadlifts: 10 sets of 10 with 60 seconds in between sets with 175 lbs. Half sumo, half standard.

Bent Rows: 115125
Bench: 115205
Militaries: 115115
Pullups: 8/3/4

My boss is back in the office on Mondays so I have to either get in really early, or bag my a.m./p.m. split. I think I’m gonna go with the pseudo GVT I’m doing for another month and then switch up to something else.

My left knee is killing me ! Shoulders feel pretty good and the back is a-ok. If nothing else these 10*10s have helped me really pay attention to my form.

I suck…went to the gym for my 3*8 workout…felt weak, weak, weak…stressed out over work and knee pain.

Rode the gay exercise bike for 20 minutes…not the REALLY gay recombinant one.

whew,
I thought you went all recmbant bike,
New York Times, and combover on us.

recoupe and regroup

I’m blaming it on all the pollen in the air.

The pressure we place upon ourselves to perform is far great they what anyone else could ever do. It will all come back together in no time at all. Sometimes time off is the best thing we can do for ourselves. Stay strong Bro, it’s just a short rest period, call it healing time.

Wait, I ride the rec. bike!

Is it gay just that I’m riding it, or is it gay that I’m riding it AND wearing pink spandex, a feather boa, and reading “Faaabulous!” magazine?

Mostly the bike, though the magazine probably isn’t helping your image either. As for the other stuff, as long as you have a Diamond Dave vibe going no one’s going to think anything.

Hey Sen. Can I stalk you log too?

Sorry I wrecked bacon for you. It really is the uber meat. I had some on your behalf last night.

They suck, but I think they’re helping.
What are they helping? Your ability to vomit in the rack?

Seriously, why?

You can do pretty much anything you want with my log.

If you are wearing a bike helmet you’re cool.

Good question. I been wondering this myself.

Here’s what I think they’re helping:

  1. I’ve always spent more time on my upper body than my legs. I think doing 10 sets of 10 has forced me to focus more on my lower half.

  2. I don’t have a rack in my gym so I have a tough time getting heavy weight up onto my back. I’ve been using a dip station to load up my bar, but the fitness center gals have let me know they don’t look favorably on me doing this. So, my only option for really hitting my legs via squats is volume.

  3. I think they’re helping my cardiovascular capacity. When I first started doing these about a month ago, I couldn’t get 4 sets in without sucking wind so hard I had to take a break. Now I feel pretty good up to the 5th set and then I’m breathing pretty hard, but able to finish the ten sets without fear of a heart attack.

  4. I think I’ve dropped some fat in the past month from doing nothing different but adding in the 10*10 squats and deads.

Finally, I thought I’d start out being able to do 155lbs on the squat for 10*10 and work my way up to 185 or 205…I failed miserably on 155 a month ago. I worked up to being able to finish 135 and did fairly well with 145 last week. I think today’s my last day using these and I’m planning on finishing 155 lbs. So, I’ll be able to see some progress in what I was able to do within a month.

I think I’ll go back to these after a month off. Their really kind of fun. In addition to vomiting you feel like you’re being tortured and almost reach an out of body experience.

I thought mine was bad when I switched to a 3 week conditioning type volume for a ‘rest’. 10x10 is crazy. Definitely good for conditioning.

It sucks that you don’t have a rack. If the fitness centre gals give you a problem, pretend you don’t speak English. It works for me.

Alternatively I’ve been teaching myself to do Zercher squats off the floor for those desperate occasions when I don’t have a rack. I have a video clip on one of the last few pages of my log. Sadly no one did a video capture of Court and I looking like a couple of lesbian bar humpers when she tried and the bar got tangled in her squat suit.

ten x ten is still pretty obscene

I never really spent any time squatting past say 315- I did do plenty of 225 x 20 275 x20
but not in a long long time.
this maybe 8 years or so ago

I really got good results with 10x3 heavyish front squats I can endorse them heavily

but if the volume is improving your conditioning and form and fat loss,
then dont change for a few more weeks

I eventually had to join a second gym to get to a rack

My ‘gym’ is in the basement of my gummint office building.

Actually, I think my back and other joints (except my left knee) have been feeling really pretty good since I started the 10*10.

Last Friday (5/1/09) Work:

10 sets of 10 squats wit 155 lbs with 60 seconds in between sets. I had to rest and breathe on the 8th, 9th and 10th sets starting at about rep 5. I got all the reps in though.

Here endeth the experiment with 10*10. I may go back to it in a few months, but I’m going to start back on Chad Waterbury’s Total Body Training program.

I did a 10x10 style experiment a few months ago only I misunderstood the concept, and did 10x10 for several exercises in each workout. Ufda! Then I switched to 8x8 ala Vince Gironda on a 3-day split style where I tried to keep the rest periods to 30 seconds. That was a GREAT metabolic conditioning workout! In fact, I set a deadlift single PR after a couple of months of that program, with no heavy lifting at all. I can see why he calls it “the honest workout”! Didn’t gain any muscle mass though.

Sounds brutal. I did some ‘crazy’ workouts in the past due to misunderstanding what the program designer intended !

Today’s Work:

Deadlifts: 35275

Flat Bench: 25275
120135

Front Squat: 15205
10205

Feeling these in my back funny..

Bent Rows: 35185

Standing Calf Raises: 35205

Chin ups: 3525lbs+bw
