All Things Chin Up

I tried to do one this week. Gave it three whole attempts and had pain in one elbow and the opposite shoulder. I watched a how-to video with progressions and I still have no hope. They make it look easy in the video, and they do it with strict form—no kipping or body movement. Jerks.

Similar to anyone bigger and stronger than me being on steroids, I’m going to say that those guys are all skinny and therefore good at bodyweight exercises. I have to justify somehow. I can’t accept the possibility that I’m too weak.

How did he tear his rotator cuff? I only saw some videos referencing his recovery.

I’m not sure.

Here’s the how-to video I looked at. I have some things to work on…

Dude is strong AF for sure, but I’d call those kipping muscle ups as opposed to muscle ups per se as the form is pretty loose. Doing MUs like that will put huge amounts of pressure on the joints so could lead to cuff issues.

It’s a huge form difference. Pulling yourself around the bar and not up to it is tough.

And Brian is fresh off rotator cuff surgery. After seeing the demos in the video I posted vs Brian’s form, I’d say he’s definitely “muscling” his way through the movement. It looks more like brute strength than skill. I’m not knocking it, 10 MU’s is 10 freakin MU’s, but it looks a brutal.

This thread made me think of this clip.

In case you guys didn’t see the story. Paris in May.

He’s a 22-year-old migrant from Mali, who was in the area just watching a soccer game when he saw the toddler dangling from the balcony. He had to climb four stories to rescue him.

France said they would fast track his immigration process, since he was in the country without papers. The Paris Fire Dept encouraged him to apply for a job. Just a great story.

That was quick. Initially I thought about running up the stairs and coming out on the balcony but his route was way faster.
