All Things Chin Up

Thought I would create a place to post chin up related videos or tips. Weighed, max reps, funky calisthenics moves, what ever floats your boat.

Anything you are proud of or think people would like to see, or something you have seen and find impressive fire it up.

@flappinit maybe move our discussion and video here to save cluttering Ct forum.

My favourite upper body exercise.

Nothing changes a physique like daily chins, in my humble opinion.

I went through a period a few years back, of doing 100 a day. Around 4 - 6 months solid.

My back blew the fuck up like nobodies business.

My right elbow went the same way unfortunately. A nasty case of tennis elbow which took a couple of years and 2 cortisone injections to clear up.

I only do chins on rings now and haven’t had much issues since.

Banging out 5-10 chins between every set of every exercise is a great ā€˜mass builder’ as far as I’m concerned.

I keep away from weighted chins as they, for me, have become elbow kryptonite. Prefer to concentrate on paused holds and tempo control.

All hail the chin up!

So, here it is. I literally finished a set of 225x4 on bench and had like a minute rest, but the pull-up station was unoccupied for a short time so I had to do it. ROM could have been a bit better and the last 2 my chin didn’t quite clear the bar, but I think fresh wouldn’t be much of a problem. Think I fired up my CNS a bit much with that bench, hit total failure there.

Also a set of like 8 and a half with a slightly crappier ROM and a 45lb plate hanging from me the other day.

Good work. Inspired me to strap a 45 on, got 10 at what is just about full rom, I would normally hold the hang for a couple of seconds but gave that a miss in search of a few extra reps.

More impressive than either of my videos. I’ll try to take a video of some legit dead hang WPUs next time I’m at the neutral grip station.

Im a huge fan of fat grip chin ups, usually in a neutral position. Best ive done with that is BW(225-230lbs)+40lbs for 10.

Edit: I dont know if it makes a difference at all, but I prefer using chains as opposed to a dip belt.

Never had a chance to use chains, would they be around your neck? I imagine that would feel very different to on a belt.

yeah, more or less, I try to keep them more on my traps. I thought it was just more convenient to set up/disassemble

Kd, how tall are you? Just out of curiosity.

I have fat grips and some dude who was lifting some serious weight and had a huge ass back was telling me he does fat grip chins and owed a lot of his size to them. I kind of forgot about it until you said this and now I want to go ham on my back with them.

@flappinit I’m 5’10 buddy

Here is a guy with one of my favourite physique training back with some really smooth chin ups in there.

No chin ups in the video

Does that make you feel good?

Not sure if your blind or being pedantic about chin/pull up. Either way cool story bro.

He’s just being one of those cunts who says ā€œhurr durr tomatoes are a fruitā€ and whatnot.

Like, yeah, you’re technically right but for all of us living in the real world a tomato is a vegetable and a chinup and a pullup are synonymous.

Anyway I’m a fatty building up my chins so it’s nice to have a thread like this.

I’ve been hitting between 80-100 chins twice a week broken up into lots of 4 rep sets lately. For this next cycle I’m going to add a rep to each set.

Not entirely certain how effective it’s been from a muscle building perspective, but as far as accumulating fatigue and greasing the groove it’s been great.
