Alisa's Training Log

Yeah, I’m home, using my dad’s gym.

Oh, dang.
My bad wrist – the cyst I always thought was harmless – has been hurting if I put weight on it. I’ve been scared to do serious weights on barbell bench because I don’t want to break my wrist or something. God I hope this doesn’t become an actual problem.

The doctors had said cysts were the result of mechanical stress (I got it when I fell a few times roller skating and landed on my wrist… something like six years ago). And hello, I’m putting mechanical stress on the wrist in the gym every time I bench. This had BETTER blow over.

DB’s are okay, but then, dudes don’t tell each other how much they can dumbbell press.

ha ha. Gallows humor, is good humor.

Can you get that wrist looked at while you are home? It might be time for a good doc to re-evaluate that long-ago diagnosis.

Good six-mile run. It’s been a while – relief to still be able to do it.

Okay, plans for the year.

Gotta get in touch with Mr. Registration and see if Feb. 28 meet is still happening.
I would ideally like a 165 squat, 120 bench, 225 DL by then, which if past records are accurate would mean I might not be the weakest one there.

I would have to learn: commands, how to pick openers, other procedural stuff.

When I get back to school I think I may need a week or so just to get back to where I was, since exercise has been so spotty while I was at home.

Long term plans: the old goals, which have had to keep getting pushed ahead as I fixed form, but whatever. By next January at least I will have an honest 200-lb squat, 265-lb deadlift, and 135-lb bench. (Some of those might happen earlier; this is a whopping 15-pound increase on the bench, which I don’t think should take me a year!)

I’m going back to clean eating once I leave the house. Tracking on fitday, carbs only on weekends, somewhere in the neighborhood of 1700-2000 calories. I should be able to get rid of the ugly just with that, and not bother going lower with calories.

The only “New year’s resolution” thing I’ll mention (that is, the only goal that I’m not sure I’ll have the willpower to actually accomplish) is more cardio. I’ll aim for two days a week instead of the less reasonable three, and if it’s bitchin’ cold I will count complexes and stairmills as cardio.

A real New Year’s Resolution: I will not gossip about people behind their backs. Especially not people who might eventually matter in my professional life (i.e. I will not call professors crappy or mean.)

I didn’t know you were in NJ…we’re not that far away from each other…Id love to come cheer you on if you compete!

Aw thanks! I’ll let you know. (but it’s really not that close – several states away, right? Maybe I just have the carless mindset.)

depending on what part of Jersey, you are only about 3 hours away! just a hop skip and a jump across Delaware! :stuck_out_tongue:

Alisa, for what its worth I totally count complexes as cardio.

I am so looking forward to you competing in February, and I predict you do well. I looked at the numbers in the link, and even I would be competitive in my weight class, except for a wimpy deadlift.

Thanks. I was surprised myself – New Jersey seems to be the land of weak ladies (unlike, say, Ohio or Maryland.)

1 mile warmup, 12 sprints (30 s each.)
It’s seriously cold out there. My tears were freezing.

you been quiet…still at your folks?

Yeah… honestly not a lot to report. By tomorrow I’ll have regular gym access again and can be more regular.

How’s the wrist cyst?

I’ve got something similar on my right wrist (from picking fights with stop signs when young and drunk) that hurts periodically. Some weeks it almost keeps me from doing pulling exercises and then goes quiet for months and I forget about it. Seems to be related to my cumulative level of stress, actually.

Back to school! Papers, exams … and gym access!

Today was honest but unimpressive – did a little bit less than my past maxes. Understandable, since i was sitting on my bum most of the time, and I think I should be back to normal in a week or so.

Bench: 10@45, 10@65, 5@85, 5@95, 3@105
No wrist pain this time.

Squat: 10@45, 5@85, 5@95, 5@115, 5@125, 1 (ish) @135

Deadlift: 10@65, 5@115, 5@135, 5@155, 3@175

curls: 3x10@40

lat raises: 5x12@15

incline situps: 2x20

An ancillary goal right now is to get stronger arms – i.e. actually increase the amount I can curl. Because at the moment this is pretty silly.

glad to see you are back to your gym. i’m sure the rest served you well and you will be back to ‘normal’ real quick. your honest wrkout looks great, btw!

how is your wrist? and what kind of advice did the docs give you? can it be treated, or are you just not supposed to stress it? i have some lump (cyst?) and i’ve yet to ask the doc what it is.

I didn’t go to the doc. I don’t want to give them any ideas. It feels fine right now (guess I was being a hypochondriac earlier.)

Also: there’s some thing on Thursday where we’re invited to “try a ROTC workout.” I want to do it. Wipe the floor with those army kids (or be wiped, I’m not sure which.)

yeah, i avoid them as well. don’t want to hear what i can’t or shouldn’t do. hope it keeps feeling fine for you.

go mop the floor with 'em and report back to us.

Great to see you back at it!

I’m glad to be back too. So glad, in fact, that I’ve started to have dreams about squatting.

Food: 1752 kcal, p/f/c 135.0/102.5/53.7
I’m going to keep eating oatmeal for breakfast, I think, despite the carbs, and instead not have silly dessert escapades on the weekends. I’m so intensely a breakfast person that I really like having oatmeal AND an omelet.
