'Sup jungle freaks? Lately I’ve gotten some sick shoulder developement, needless to say I’m quite stoked. I noticed, however, whilst posing down after an euphoria-inducing workout today that the development on my left side exceeds the growth on my right shoulder. Oddity here is that I am a righty, and my right arm is stronger than my left. My left arm, freak that I am, is slightly LONGER than my right. Could this be the central cause of the imbalance? How would I go about correcting such a natural phenomena? In other Monkey madness, I’ve just today finished my last finals, so much to the pure rapture of MOST on this forum, I’ll be around to post much more of my observations from Behind The Vines. Thanks t-peeps. Lata.

i have a similar problem, although mine seems confined to my rear delts (my rear left delt is virtually nonexistent). i have driven myself crazy trying to determine the cause of this imbalance. i know it has nothing to do with my training, so i suspect it may have resulted from sports: i throw with my right arm (and id so for many years of little league). but i also play hockey right-handed and am guessing it may be from this.
if you are still with me, i guess my response to you is: have you played any sports?? if not, i would agree with your notion that it may be the length of your arm. i dunno though. hope this helps, although i doubt it does. peace

I’ve read about this several times in rehab lit. It is not uncommon for trainees to find the non-dominant limb growing more in size than the dominant side. This is usually attributed to a lack of motor coordination in the “off-side”. In other words, you are better at using your dominant arm so it can stay stronger while staying smaller. While the other arm is not as coordinated, so it responds to the training by getting larger- especially if you are doing alot of bi-lateral exercises.
Damn Jeff, that makes sense. So far I’ve recieved two extrodinarily high-quality pieces of feedback. Thanks t-freaks. I just wanna keep this thread going now to seee what else I can catch on tha line. Lata.

Also you might want to check your spinal and shoulder alignment. Is your spine perfectly straight? Does one shoulder sit higher then the other?..Little things like this can make a huge difference in muscular symmetry. I’ve been training for years and just this year found out that I have a very mild case of scoliosis which caused some muscle development issues such as you describe.
i would say that you have hit the nail on the head. if you looked close enough you would prolly notice similar situations all ove your physique. my left top delt is noticeably smaller that my right although i can lift more weight with my left side. i am right handed, so you might think that explains the reason for the nigger right delt, but if you look closely it is apparent why. my left delt tie-in is further down my arm than the right. this give my left arm a mechanical advantage allowing my left delt to be smaller in size, but still lift more weight. other oddities like my left tricep is stronger than my right while my right bicep and pec is larger. i don’t suspect there is anything we can do about it other than using different sized dumbbells in each hand. now THAT’S odd.
