Alcohol or Marijuana?

This is basically somewhat of an opinion poll, although any evidence that you have to back up why you feel the way that you do would be greatly appreciated…not considering any of the “legal” ramifications whatsoever, and thinking only of what the two substances can do to your body, would you consider alcohol or marijuana to be more harmful? Here are some of the negative effects of the two that I can think of that you may or may not agree with.

Marijuana: efficiency of oxygen use lowered, lowered T levels, “poor food choices” while high, temporary loss of short term memory, lowered sperm count(could be good or bad)

Alcohol: the plethora of things that can happen while under the influence, MANY empty calories, dehydration, often not eating for long periods of time(time spent drinking, extra time spent sleeping in order to recover), poor food choices while under the influence, lowered T levels, etc.

I’m not necessarily favoring either side, although I was able to come up with many more negative effects of alcohol. This could maybe just provide you with something to think about, but I would definitely like to hear your opinions as well.

I like crack best! HOOO-YAAHHH!!!

Marijauna and Alchahol both have their negatives and positives. I think MJ should be legalized personally even though I don’t smoke it. Smoking marijuana is bad for the lungs. But you can inhale through a vaporizer or make marijuana cookies, brownies, etc. It also increases apetite. THC is a more powerful antioxadent than vitamin C and E. It can help clear oxodized free radicals in the brain from causing brain damage (especially in stroke victims). Alchol on the other hand can be a good antioxadent if consumed through wine. I enjoy haveing a beer or wine every now and then. But their is absolutely no health benefit to it exept through little amounts of wine from what I’ve read. Oh yeahh, regardless of what anyone has told you, marijuana does not cause brain dammage. What ever memory loss you occur throuh it’s use is not caused by dammage, but is caused by temporary blockage between nerve cells in the brain. Within a few days to 3 months after you quit every thing goes back to normal. The time depends on how often you have smoked/ingested.

btw it is probably best not to eat when drunk considering that alcohol at that level shutsdown protein synthesis entirely in fast twitch muscles.

Was it the Alcohol or the Dope that caused birth defects in 3 of my past “associates” babies? Probably the dope if anything since 2 of them didn’t drink. Was it the father or the mothers fault (for want of a better term). I’m not suggesting this is a valid assumption scientifically speaking just a personal observation, and Im not taking any chances. I drink in moderation once in a blue moon cos its legal so I spose thats my pref. Anyway I’m off, Its stoner bashing time

While they both have undesirable side effects the bottom line to me is…Alcohol is legal and marijuana is not.

My neighbor smokes pot and was high when he hit my brand-new truck in my condo’s parking lot 2 weeks ago. I don’t care what anyone says, pot messes with your ability to perform the simplest tasks. Because of this idiot and MI’s insurance laws, I get to pay around 2K extra over the next three years in insurance premiums. Losers smoke pot. Get high on life!

V2, shouldn’t that also mean that only losers drink alcohol? No one was in your truck at the time of the accident, however, I sure hear a lot about drunk drivers destroying lives on the freeway. Regardless of what you believe, doesn’t there seem to be a double standard here? Last I checked, alcohol is addictive and most people who drink started when they were in high school. Why is it legal and why aren’t people this vocal about making it illegal considering the damage it causes?

Definately consider Alcohol to be more harmful. I believe you can find liks to MJ studies at the NORMAL website. BTW I was wondering if the THC itself causes the reduced T-levels or is it cuz of inhaling smoke…anyone?

“Anyway, I’m off. It’s stoner bashing time.”

Ha, Give me a break.

Came upon this study. Interesting.

NEW STUDY FINDS POT DOESN’T LOWER TESTOSTERONE

A new study by Dr. Robert Block at the University of Iowa disputes the commonly held notion that marijuana alters the level of testosterone and other sex hormones. The study contradicted a widely publicized 1974 study by Dr. R.C. Kolodony, which reported decreased testosterone levels in men who smoked marijuana chronically. The U. of Iowa study found that chronic marijuana use had no effect on testosterone, luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, prolactin and cortisol in men or women. Noting that six other studies had failed to show lowered testosterone levels in men, Dr. Block concluded: "It appears that marijuana, even heavy use of the kind that's typical in the United States, doesn't alter testosterone levels." However, he cautioned that heavy use might have other adverse effects, including "possible effects on reproductive function and mild, selective cognitive impairments associated with heavy, chronic use."

Block's study is published in Drug and Alcohol Dependence, Vol. 28: 121-8 (1991).

<brCommittee recommends legalizing pot
OTTAWA (CP) – Canada should legalize the use of marijuana by adults,
a Senate committee recommended Wednesday.

The special committee said the current system of prohibition doesn’t
work and should be replaced by a regulated system, perhaps like that
used for alcohol.

“Scientific evidence overwhelmingly indicates that cannabis is
substantially less harmful than alcohol and should be treated not as a
criminal issue but as a social and public health issue,” said
Senator Pierre Claude Nolin, the committee chair.

The committee also recommended amnesty for anyone with a criminal
record for possessing pot.

An estimated 600,000 Canadians have been convicted of simple cannabis
possession.

The report follows a two year study of public policy related to
marijuana.

It’s not clear if the committee’s recommendations will ever be
adopted. There is broad support in Parliament for decriminalization of
marijuana, but the Liberal government has not signalled whether it
will introduce a bill to do that.

Oh dear I’ve upset someone :(, Its a line from “Dude where’s my car” (I think), and like you I see the stupidity in it, hence the smiley face.

Well, as these threads come about I always feel the need to chime in. Not to mention, Im high as shit right now… In my experience, alcohol tends to be more harmful to me with disruption to my workouts and an overall feeling of shit. Hangovers are a bitch. They say the dangers of weed is that its a gateway drug. Yes, its a gateway to my bed… I dont smoke that much these days but when I want to burn one, Im gonna.
