What are the differences on the agonists of a hack squat compared to a deadlift? I wanna know. Do you know?
i’m not sure but do you mean antagonist? like with the synergist, prime mover, and antoginist in a movement? if not sorry for my ignorance…lol

Hack squat is more knee dominant. so the quads get it a whole lot… where with the DL it is more hip based, so the posterior chain gets it, quads also but to a lesser degree.
Hack squat - vastus lateralis, intermedius, medialis rectus femoris, sartorius, adductors, tensor facia latae right down ITB.
DL - Bicep femoris, semi-tendonosus semi-membranosus, gracilis, 3 glutes, lumbar musculature…
Most definately more… but that enough?

hey man great post on the muscles hit with those exercises i think that definitely answerst the question. i don’t want to hijack the other dood’s thread, but can you define agonist for me? I’m nearing the end of an anatomy class in college and physiology is next semester. I learned all of the correct terms for muscles and movements so now I actually know the vastus lateralis, medialis, rectus femoris, etc as their proper names instead of just quad. lol but i don’t remember agonist. If you could help me out with that that’d be great…if not I’ll start searching! lol
thanks man

I can try matey, an agonist is the prime mover - a direct pulling force on that joint/bone/movement. The muscle that directly causes the movement.
Antagonist is the opposite, so the muscle involved in opposing that movement… i dont know if that is “defined” enough, but its the best i can do!
Joe
right on man. That cleared it up perfectly. Yes I understood the prime mover, synergist, antagonist part. In class we had just learned it as the prime mover instead of the term agonist. LOL right on thanks man

I think the sartorius, TFL, glute med, min and the adductors will be fixators during both hip extenstion and/or knee extension exercises.
Glutes will be synergists to both exercises.
Quads will be synergists to dLing and hams will be synergists to hack squat.
Could be wrong.

No, you could well be right, i WAS thinking very broadly. I think TFL is defo agonist in hip ext. sartorius crosses hip joint not knee i think, and isnt glute max a prime mover in hip flexion?
I think that last sentance is dead on tho mate.
