Advice on Getting Started

Okay, I am 20 years old, I work full time and go to school full time. I have a few friends that work out regularly and they seem to have so much energy all day every day. I really wanna get a routine going, I think I can devote about an hour a day 3-5 days a week. I really need some advice on how to get started.

I would like to focus on getting some kind of definition (6’ 145lbs so there isn’t much to me). Also, I smoke at least a pack of cigarettes a day and I wanna quit, anyone have some advice on kicking the habit?

what is the point in giving useless advice?? people post here to get help from others not get told something stupid, it obviously isnt as simple as stopping or he would have done it already.

i would rrecommend instead of stopping altogether straight away, cut down. so say you smoke 20 a day just now e.g cut to 15 for 2 weeks, and then try cutting to 12 and so on, until you eventually kick it in. also my dad used patches as well to help while doing this and he stopped in 2 months. worth a try, no?

If you want to quit, talk to your doctor and tell all your friends and family that you want their help.

Thanks millar, I’ll give that a shot, I already bought the gum, so I’ll see how that works. Not a bad suggestion either monkey.

I would recommend he grows a pair and stops cold turkey.

Now this isnt a quit smoking help site this is T-Nation so lets talk about your goals. First off it would be better if you could set aside maybe 2 hours a day for 3 days a week rather then 1 hour a day. I dont think I could do my stuff in just an hour and you shouldn’t really be going 5 days a week.

Start with going to the beginners thread at the top of the beginners forum and reading stuff about diet and hitting the gym. Then come back to us with some more specific questions. Good Luck.
