Advice for a 40in Vert?

I put this up because i want to improve my vertical jump, and get it eventually to 40inches. Is there anyone on here who has a 40in vert or close to one that could give me some advice or what they did to achieve this? i have been lifting everyonce and a while but now im going to take it seriously to get to my goal but i dont really have an idea on how to get there.

here is some info to give an idea on me
Height: 6’4’’
weight: 215
Fat%: 17%
standing reach: 8’
running touch: 10’4"

Reduce your bodyfat, increase your muscle, learn how to actually jump, stretch your hip flexors prior to testing, squat, front squat, and build some strength, stop just lifting “every once in a while”, read up on this site, read up at Joe Defrancos site.

Good, simple advice. Also check out Kelly Baggett as he has training programmes focused on vertical jumps and specialises int he subject. If you want a 40 inch vertical jump check out what the people with 40 inch vertical jumps are doing

I’m a bit over 40" after 2 major knee injuries and was close to a legiti (not bs NFL combine or internet) 44" before the injuries. Get strong, don’t be fat and jump.

/thread.

Also, If you know somewhere with a vertamax it is well worth your time. added 8 inches in 10 weeks making my vertical 33in when I was 6’2" 240lbs in high school. Not a low amount of body fat at all

Ask frank yang.

Vertical isn’t about how high you can jump, but rather about how much force you can exert into the ground. There’s been some good advice (losing fat, LEARNING HOW TO JUMP, and how to train), but I’ll focus on exerting force into the ground. Do things that mimic this such as squats, HANG CLEAN (snatch, clean & jerk, etc), push a weighted sled, etc. I’d also recommend plyometric jumps if you can do them properly and safely. With plyos it is important to keep the volume low so that you do not overexert yourself into injury. Happy jumping.

I can squat alot for my weight, am fairly flexible, yet my vert is not impressive by any standards (24 perhaps?).

I do some sets of various jumps (regular, phil harrington from the knees, box jumps) etc before most workouts. I do have an over-reliance on hamstrings/glutes when I squat however, perhaps my quads are a weak link. My hang clean form is less than admirable, I can get between 225-240 at a bw of 175-180.
