If I were going to spend that kind of money on a car (I doubt I will) I might get the 2003 McLaren edition Lincoln LS. 350 hp as well as various other improvements.
Jack Dublin: How can you compare a rear-wheel drive impala ss to some little front wheel drive car at autocross??? They wouldn’t even be in the same class, not to mention the difference in power output. I do agree that rear-wheel drive is better, but thats not really a fair comparison. If you look at a road racing series like Touring or Improved touring, front wheel drive cars are extreemly competitive. Of course as it has been mentioned once you start adding tons of power front-wheel drive really starts to suck(traction loss), but in stock form thats not the case. There were several CRX’s that won in the touring classes at limerock this last weekend, beating out several rear-wheel drive cars. But I do think that anyone who wants to smoke a corvette in their civic for a few grand is a joke! First of all the civic’s engine is make out of toothpicks. So if I wanted to add a turbo I could probably only squeeze out 5psi before the cast con-rods and pistons started falling apart and the injectors were maxed. Any good turbo kit will run you 2k but at only 5 psi your not even close to smoking a corvette. So what do the civic owners do??? They build up some crazy engine for another 5-7 grand. Yeah, real cheap! Lets not even get into the broken trannies and axles. Oh and don’t forget the huge injectors that will probably cause your car to stall at every light. Then of course there’s the upgraded fuel pump too. For the cumulative amount of money you spend, a used corvette is a much better deal. Don’t get me wrong I love japanese cars, just not a fan of the wannabee-supercar honda myth.
Absolutely. The teachers really are hamstrung
when the kids are accustomed to disobedience and in fact don’t consider it the slightest bit important to do what they are told. Worse yet, if they try doing anything with the kids that might actually work, they will probably be reprimanded by adminstrators, etc. as well as irate parents.
A lot of the blame for bad government schools does go to bad teachers and bad administrators – how often are teachers fired for bad performance? – but for many of the kids performing badly, the blame is even more on the parents.
The child in question, by the way, failed the first grade last year.
And guess what, he stole another roll of quarters yesterday. Well, who’d have thought he would have learned from his previous “punishment” anyhow?
If it were one kid, it would be an unfortunate thing for that one kid and not necessarily something to take everyone’s time up with. I think it is probably millions of kids though.
Sorry to hear that. I hope the parent comes around fast. Maybe there should be a scared straight program for adults about the effect no discipline has on kids.
Funny store for you all about some adolescent jerkoffs. These boys were dumb as dirt. As I left the gym today, out in the parking lot a bunce of adolescent jerkoffs where loading and unloading the trucks of their cars which were full of beer and ice. They were being quite loud and throwing their trash around the parking lot. What these adolescent jerkoffs
did not realize or were to stupid to think about was that in addition to the Stop & Shop, the Pizza Place, the gym and the liquior store, this parking lot had a police trailer in it. Now there were two police cars parked in-front of the trailer. As I go to my car, one of the officers was approaching the the group of adolescent jerkoffs. He was pleasant and asked for ID’s. So as I sat there finishing my Surge, I watched as the adolescent jerkoffs run to their cars and drive like hell to get out of the parking lot. But one of the cruisers had already blocked the exit and two were pulling in the entrance. A great time was had by all! Thank you Lord, I needed a good laugh today. BEst of Luck.
But what is speed? What is fast? Cars are really a waste of time in this regard in my opinion. I drive an Audi S4 which is chipped with turbo upgrades and currently makes 412 HP and 482 ft lbs of torque. Dyno proven. Read those numbers again and let them sink in… And best of all this S4 is a 4 door sleeper. No seven foot wing to provide dowforce, or coffee can exhaust to make someone want to drive a crowbar through my skull. 0-60 in 4.7 seconds according to my G-tech. How? All Wheel Drive. Nothing. and I mean nothing can touch this car on the street short of a Dodge Viper. Its quiet, idles like glass and my grandmother could drive it all day long provided she stays out of the boost. Whats the point here? The point is that speed is a relative term. Everybody has their definition of what is “fast” And best of all my street bike (CBR929)could absoultely crush my S4 in terms of performance numbers. I too laugh at the “Rice Boys” they are a constant source of entertainment. But I drive a German car so I guess I am a “Kraut Boy?”
MDLP: a corvette can go just as fast, if not a tenth faster depending on the model, and an M3 goes about a tenth slower. How can you say no other car can touch you on the street besides a viper? A WRX with 7k in mods can easily go that fast for a few grand less than a stock S4, and also has AWD. Also, a G-tech’s reading should be taken with a huge grain of salt.
Yes, a g-tech rating should be taken with a grain of salt, but I think in this case it’s a little conservative of what MDLP’s car can do. Look at the power he’s putting to the ground. You also need to consider that the times mentioned (for an M3 or Vette) are from professional drivers. I have no idea how good of a driver MDLP is, but getting the top performance out of a turbo AWD car is actually more difficult than you might think. I think he’s got a bad ass car and that he’s probably right - there is very little on the road that could hang with a car like that when launched properly, especially off the line.
Jared, don’t get me wrong, an S4 has got to be the ultimate sleeper, especialy when its on a heavy dose of boost. I eat sleep and breath AWD cars, and I have seen some very cheap subarus go insanely fast, for next to nothing. There are numerous WRX’s popping up pulling 12.5sec 1/4 miles with inexperienced drivers. I just thought MDLP was just a wee bit overstated. I would certainly agree that he has one FAST car! And with all that in mind, I’m sure the S4 would get you laid alot quicker than a WRX
Actually, the WRX would be a bit of a sleeper. I’m thinking most V8 drivers would pull up next to it thinking they were sitting next to a 15 second econbox, but damn, those things are fast.
Jonnyjon… I agree the WRX is an awesome car and a testiment to what can be achieved with turbocharging. And Subaru has been on to something for quite some time as ALL their cars have had AWD for several years. With respect to your comments about Vettes and M3’s I have raced and destroyed both on several occasions, both with several levels of drivers, so I feel the cars have been driven at their potential, they just cant hook the power to the ground under launch conditions. The best thing is the look on the Vette drivers face at the next light… The M3 drives (Most of em’) Know what they “might” be getting into, so they expect the possible outcome, and I usually receive a “thumbs up” at the next light from them anyhow. The Vette driver has been lulled into the “there is no replacement for displacement” line of thinking, thus the look on their face at the next light… I dont care how big your lump under the hood is if you have to spin it to 4 or 5K to achieve maximum torque, while I have close to 500 Ft.Lb. at just above idle. But a Vette and a S4 are toatlly different cars. I am in the lap of luxury, and I can haul ass if need be with complete control. Drive the Vette for a day and you will feel as if you were beat up the next morning. Worse yet try to drive it in the snow. The S4 in the snow, with a pair of Blizzaks and it’s AWD can be driven hard with complete controll. I consider the Vette to be an axe, while the S4 is a scalpel. Both are capable of getting the job done. And no disrespect to the Vette. Finally with the C5 and later models it has become a true American sports car. I just prefer to roll around with a 4 door sleeper look. Less attention from the “Man” that way.
Sounds like your S4 is a nice ride. That’s what I loved about my Impala - 4 doors, tons of comfort, and could smoke most cars I raced against. Vettes, Cobra’s, and newer Z-28’s beat me, but they damn well should.
Not all Jap cars suck - the Supra's nice, the Skyline GTR isn't here, but it's damned nice, and a 300ZX twin turbo isn't bad, either. But personally, I'm more of an "all motor" kind of guy. I'd rather have a 600 horse normally aspirated Viper than a 600 horse twin-turbo Vette. Power adders are nice, but I guess they can be compared to roids: The gains are nice, but I'm more impressed by a guy who can bench 500 pounds naturally than 600 pounds after a cycle.
And speaking of cycles, you guys with crotch rocket bikes just plain suck. Do you know how humiliating it is to get your ass kicked by a guy popping a wheelie? (sigh) The only advantage I've got in a sports car is that I've yet to find a bike rider with the balls to go ALL OUT 140+ top speed runs. Under 100, my ass was kicked royally, but at 100 or over, aerodynamics helped my Vette a lot.
Jack, I exceed 100 every time I ride my CBR. It’s just so easy to do. And it only takes 2nd gear. (I can go 60+ in first) Sadly cars dont toy with me much. It had been years since I have exceeded 100 for an extended period of time due to legal ramifications, but a few weeks ago I ran up to 140 or so for several miles. Late at night, no cars, well lit section of highway. Most people would call me “Crazy” But the machine is made to do this… Fun!
“…And best of all this S4 is a 4 door sleeper. No seven foot wing to provide dowforce, or coffee can exhaust to make someone want to drive a crowbar through my skull…”
I have to laugh every time I see one of these kars with a bookshelf rear spoiler...and the damn thing is FRONT WHEEL DRIVE. Yeah, I'm intimidated all right. LOL.
Demo, Yeah, I thought I was the only one who noticed that. Rear down force on a FWD car. I’ve always wanted to ask them their reasoning behind that move, But I’d most likely get “Yeeeah “G” I gots it cauze it lookz dope” “Why you gotta be PLaYa HaTin? Knowwhatimsayin” Or some un-intelligible shit like that… They are funny and a constant source of entertainment Lets not forget the 4 foot tall Chineese symbols that probably really say… “I’m a stupid white boy” or something like that… But what takes the stupidity cake HAS to be the Moon Rover wheel setup. You know the 11 inch wheels that stick out 8 inches from the side of the car. I like to keep a low profile, but I’ll actually roll my window down to point and laugh at those clowns. Who am I to judge, but it sure is funny tho…
I have a freind whose father was a pro drag racer in the 70's. This guy eats, sleeps, and breathes horsepower, and has passed this tradition on to his son. These two guys have forgotten more about racing, horsepower, and cars in general than most self-styled experts will ever know. I have to laugh when I see the looks on their faces when a kid in a heavily modded import rolls up on them. It's like someone walked into a VFW hall and lit a flag on fire.
OH MAN! There is this guy that I see once in a while on my way home that has a Geo Tracker with “moon rover wheels”!!! Its hard not to laugh! Jack Dublin: the advantage of turbos are that you can still get 30mpg if you lay off the boost on the highway. Of course all-motor has the advantage of a more predictable torque curve. V-8’s loose their charp IMHO when they start sucking gas like crazy. Obviously if you’ve got a performance car gas is not the number one concern but filling up all the time is a huge pain in the rear. Demo Dick: I agree; spoilers on most street cars are rediculous since they don’t even work much below 90mph. But when speaking of racing, if a front wheel drive car was going 130mph down a straight at a race track, and it had lift on the rear wheels it would be extreemly unsafe even though its power is going to its front wheels, mainly because of traction loss entering into a turn. MDLP: Where do you race? Are your mods legal in autocrossing or are you just renting time at a track and doing time trials. Just curious… there are a crapload of S4’s parked at limerock racepark every time I go. Speaking of sleepers, too bad subaru doesn’t send us the japanese GT-B wagon. Looks like your run of the mill middle-class housewife’s subaru station wagon, but has a twin-turbo 280hp engine. I think if the cops saw that running down the highway at 150 they wouldn’t believe their radar Then again, the S4 Avant makes a great sleeper too.
