When in the hell did I ever say that a bench shirt will automatically get you 600lbs? The top benchers in the world today, bench shirts or not, are immensely talented and strong individuals. I never said otherwise. I did say, however, that their top lifts have been greatly helped by the modern day equipment. So what? I don’t see how that can be disputed.
Regarding my own personal bench press, you’re right, it’s currently somewhere in the 200s. A lot less than the 341.5 I did back in 1981 as a 19 year old competing in the 165lb class at the teenage nationals (no shirts back then). Best competition squat at 165 lbs was 480, DL 500.
No, I’m not going to start a log here. And, I hope you are all successful with your training.
Okay, I couldn’t resist just one more post: Peace to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I never meant for this to turn into a pissing match. Let’s face it, modern day powerlifting is pretty fractured, what with all the different lifting federations, rules, etc. Hopefully, the one uniting element is the love for training and lifting… that’s why I’m still doing this and reading as much as I can at places like t-mag.
I second the call for the end of the pissing match.
Thus endeth the thread. Incredible. Hot. Strong. Palmer. Bench shirt.
hahaha no, i am not will, i’m way better looking, and I’m redshirted this year, I get a chance to prove myself in spring ball, in the mean time, im enjoying the facilities, free equipment/clothes, and most of all, the training table… people don’t realize just how good a D1 training table can be…
come next fall, i’ll let you guys know who i am, but only if I’m playing…
As an update to this thread, I was listening to Howard this morning and Playmate Jennifer Walcott was on, gushing about her fantastic sex with current boyfriend Adam Archuletta.
Fucker.

I’m so jealous of him it’s not even funny.

Adam is a football player.
Therefore the measure of the effectiveness of his training is not his 40 time, not his bench (assisted or not)or his squat. The measure of the effectiveness of his training is what he does on the field. End of story. He is at best an average strong safety who gets injured alot (with his training routine, go figure). I count 16 NFL strong safeties who had more tackles last year. Thats what a strong safety is measured by…tackles. Hell, Mike Doss of the Colts had more tackles and was a rookie. Interceptions are nice too, but i don’t think Adam ranks too high in that department either, correct me if i’m wrong.
Adam reminds me alot of Jason Seahorn…overrated.

I don’t how how fair it really is to compare stats between a guy that was playing hurt most of last season to guys that weren’t.
Personally, I repsect Archuleta a lot because his work ethic has turned himself into a pro when so many people with a lot more physical gifts don’t make it because they won’t work hard enough.

Would you say she might describe it as, “incredibly hot?”
haha, didn’t see this thread before. Great stuff. If the guy is doing a forced rep, there is no way to compare it to a bench press as performed in powerlifting. It’d be like comparing leg press weights to squat weights. Before we start arguing about how strong someone like Archuleta is compared to strength athletes, we have to get him performing the lifts they do. Not to mention that most powerlifters currently don’t train for a raw bench, so it’s basically comparing two assistance lifts to separate sports.
So how many cock presses do you think you could do with Jennifer Walcott?
I’d love to know Coach Thib’s opinion on Adam’s training methods

A nearly inexhaustible supply. Was it okay to use the quotes here?
I just found a clip of the video and most of the stuff looked crazy.
Big Martin, if they only knew the power of the Darkside…
I just read this whole thread. The big guys need to quit crying about the “incredibly strong” comment.
First off, compared to the general public and to the majority of football players, he is incredibly strong. We are talking about a guy who has to have speed, agility, endurance, etc., and can still bench over 500 raw. I’m sorry but that is incredibly strong.
Yet some of you want to compare him to elite powerlifters. Adam is not even training for powerlifiting so we have no idea what his potential is as a powerlifter.
This is like Asafa Powell and Maurice Greene getting upset when someone says Mike Vick in incredibly fast.
For what his sport is and for what his training is like, he is incredibly strong. Get over it. It’s idiotic to have to qualify every statement by saying “this person is incredibly this, except compared to the elite of the world who make every effort to be the best at this and train completely differently and…”.

Well, they aren’t really “his methods” as most of the stuff he uses has been around since the 70s in the Soviet literature. I was also using a lot of the same exercises before I even heard of him.
That having been said, I like the methodologies he uses.
Now, in regard to the comments about him being incredibly strong. I would say that pound for pound he is probably one of the strongest football player around. However he is still out of the league of several athletes from other sports even non-powerlifting and non-olympic lifting athletes.
It is also hard to establish his real strength levels. Jay S. says that he stopped using squats with Adam because he was “too strong” on them and focused on other methods. And it’s hard to find a legit account of what he really bench presses.
That having been said, Adam is probably my favorite NFL player.
But for the record, every body know that shaved strength-coaches are MUCH hotter than him! Put me, Dave Tate and Joe DeFranco in a bar and I guarantee that every single female in there will simply melt down ![]()
That’s a good link up above about his back problem… I didn’t know about that. Hopefully, he’ll be able to make a complete recovery so we can keep arguing about whether or not he’s “incredibly strong”… hee hee.
Let’s look forward to seeing him on the field this year.

Thank you. I had forgotten about this thread but it popped into my head just the other night during a nightmare I was having.
