Absolute Strength-Absolute Speed Continuum

The Absolute Strength to Absolute Speed Continuum - YouTube

We were just discussing this in my Sports Conditioning class today. I think its ridiculous how few people actually realize that this continuum exists. I feel like i’ve had to explain this to twenty different athletes in the last two weeks. I’m glad that someone like Cressey has put this out there to explain to all the coaches that both ends are necessary and that all the plyometric only vertical jump programs are rubbish.

My abbreviated version of this 8 minute long video:

This is the easiest way I think to explain it: Doing plyometrics/ ABSOLUTE SPEED work will allow you to become super efficient with your CURRENT ABSOLUTE STRENGTH. If you train only absolute strength, you will not necessarily be good at absolute speed work; however, the stronger you are the more potential you have for being faster (once you begin training absolute speed)

many powerlifters don’t know about this but base their training on it anyway.
