Has anyone here read Don Alessi’s book ‘The Promise’. Just curious. It is wise to buy it, or has most of the material already been published here.
Thanks in advance
This will be reviewed in the next “Stuff We Like” column at T-mag. Until then, I’ll say it’s a good book, but one aimed at beginners. Think of it as Body for Life, only without the supplement shilling and Bill. Don’s articles for T-mag are very advanced compared to the book. There’s not much overlap because the book focuses on basics and is aimed at the person just deciding to get into shape. Also keep in mind that Don’s brother co-authored the book with him, so it may not be completely reflective of Don’s ideas. So, good book, but written for newbies who want to get in shape, not bodybuilders who want to look scary. (Although I picked up some info I didn’t know by reading it. There’s always something to learn.)
I have read the book, if you have read the past issues of t-mag it way below your knowledge. Alessi’s article’s alone are a level above the workout program in the book. Plus the book is written mostly by Derek, who writes more like an MBA than a serious trainer.
It’s geared towards baby boomer types that have worked hard to make money over their life and find they are overweight and over-whelmed with getting in shape without the assistance of weight watchers much like “Body For Life”.
Gave it to my father, who fits that mold.
