Ab Spasms

Okay, I wouldn’t even classify this as an injury but its getting on my nerves. Whenever I try to do direct ab work my abs seize up and can sometimes go in to a spasm that actually hurts. For example, if I’m doing leg raises on the floor and my feet are up at the top of the movement and then my abs freak out, my legs will just crash to the ground and I dare not try to sit up right away.

A little background, I’ve never had this problem before. I then decided not to do any direct ab work for about 18 months and relied on squats and deads for my abs. Now that I’m trying to directly work my abs I find I cant really do anything but planks…Kinda annoying. Any thoughts?

i have the same problem. every once in while i get cramps in my abs during a abs workout. next time i go to the doctor im going to ask. meanwhile i hope like you do that someone sees this and give advice.

Yeah it may be because you haven’t done any direct work for that muscle group as much… I had alot of muscle spasms from taking time off and starting the same routine again after recovering from being sick…
