That’s awesome. If the schools around me had PL teams, I’ll be a team of one chick ;(

Aww
regardless you’d make a pretty kick ass one chick team ![]()
If I’m not mistaken I believe there are both guys and gals on my school’s team.
Cycle 3, Week 4, Day 3
Thursday 1/20/11
Military press
5x5x95
Chin ups
10x5xBW
Experimented with a false grip and regular, as well as different grip widths. Definitely going to be sticking to a false grip.
Your school has a powerlifting team? I didn’t even know that any schools did!

Haha yeah they do. I’ll be stopping by a practice session tomorrow afternoon. I’m PSYCHED for that.

Awesome, man! That should be fun
Definitely! The only thing I’m tentative about is lifting raw vs geared. Right now I just want to stick to being raw.
That’s badass they have a PL team. I’d imagine that they don’t practice with their gear on very often, if you decide to train with them on a regular basis.

Badass indeed! That’s true. I’m almost certain that I’ll be joining the team and training with them at least 2x/week. Hopefully stopping by a training session tomorrow won’t convince me otherwise.

I’ll love to see the girls on that team, they’ll be strong just for joining the team in the first place.
I hope you approve of the team tomorrow and join.

Based on the few pics I’ve seen, I’d say the girls have at least a decent level of strength.
I’m pretty sure I will ![]()

I’ve finally checked out my school’s PL team, and I’m going to give it a shot. My first ‘work out’ with them will most likely be this Wednesday, so I’m curious to see how that goes. They’re wanting to see me to all the big three to check on my form which makes sense. Hopefully it’ll go well. I’m not sure if they’re going to give me some program or let me do my thing. I suppose I’ll be fine either way. Regardless I’ll still continue to log my training.
As far as my first impressions go I’m not really sure. On one side of the room they were doing heavy triples. One guy was tripling around 5 plates, while guys a lot smaller than me were tripling in the mid 300s. So I’ll definitely be training with guys stronger than me, which is a great thing :). Plus the guys I’ve talked to have been PLing since high school. So there’s definitely a thing or two to learn.
But on the other side of the room there were a few guys messing around, at least from what I could tell. But then again the semester did just start and apparently they are getting back into the swing of things.
I’m really heading into unknown water, but I’m stoked. DL deload session tomorrow, and then Longhorn PLing!!!

BTW, it was weird seeing other people in a gym after a few months of garage gym workouts haha
That’s awesome about the team!
I remember in my school’s fitness class, powerlifting and deadlifts were forbidden, so that team gives me hope in the school system ![]()

Awesome indeed ![]()
I can already feel that the new atmosphere will do wonders for me.
Cycle 3, Week 4, Day 4
Saturday 1/22/11
Deadlift
a few x3x225
DB swings (staggered w/ DLs)
some x some x 50
Tried tweaking my technique and decided to throw in DB swings for the fun of it. Turns out DB swings helped my focus on squeezing the glutes and humping the bar. Doing this instantly made a difference. Almost no lower back pain ![]()
EDIT: definitely will be using DB swings and/or glute bridges. Gonna get me some buns o’ steel
Woot! Glad you liked the swings.
Supersetting them with DLs is also awesome, when I did that, I was on the floor between sets. Definetely hammers that posterior chain.

Haha, much gratitude for suggesting swings :).
Awesome indeed. Thankfully I wasn’t using a lot of weight/reps for the swings. Otherwise I’d definitely be on the floor writhing in pain.
Just giving you back your log, back on page 1 ![]()
waits for another stellar training session

Aww why thank you ![]()
Today was supposed to be a bench day to start off my 4th cycle of 5/3/1, but I decided to extend my deload week because on Wednesday I’ll be having my first session my school’s PL team. And as far as I know they’re going to want me to squat, bench, and DL. I’ll be bringing along the camera just in case something worth recording arises.
Nice, man! PL team should be fun

Definitely! Although I get a sense that the guys I talked to think I’m more inexperienced than I really am. But I am by no means experienced haha. Hopefully I’ll surprise them :).
Man I’m itching to lift some weight. I’ll probably do two neural charge WOs tomorrow.
