A Strange Issue with Pinning

I pin my medication in my thighs with a 25g 1 inch needle. I can make it completely pain free all along until the very last 1-2mm part of the needle. When the 1 inch gets fully in I feel pain. It feels like there is a harder layer of muscle at that end point exactly at 1 inch and the pinning gets painful. Is it important to get the whole inch in the thighs or should I be good not fully inserting it? Again, I talk about inserting it 95% deep, not halfway in or smething like that. Please advise.

Also, I should note how beneficial aspiration is. Today for the first time when I aspirated a lot of blood came into the syrange rapidly and I pulled it out immediately from that spot.

I would choose another pin site. The quads are full of nerves and blood vessels. If you have someone to help you, use a 29g 1/2" needle in your delts. Way better. If you have no help, then try pinning higher up on your quad nearer your hip. For me, this is much easier and rarely painful.

Depends how much fat you have in that area assuming you are aiming for IM. You’d have to be pretty thicc to not be hitting muscle after an inch, or even most of an inch, so I’m inclined to say you’re fine not injecting all the way.

There’s more than one resource that explicitly say not to inject all the way in case the needle breaks off, which makes a good bit of sense to me. Doesn’t mean you have to follow that advice, just a recommendation I’ve heard from a few roid resources.

Yes, I realized this because there are times when the muscles twitches in that area during inserting the needle. Btw I already aim fairly high, but I’ll try to go even higher next time. I have no help.

I was really surprised to see blood instead of the usual air bubble during aspiration. I’m glad I never forget to do that.

No, I’m normal in that area regarding body fat. I played basketball and soccer when I was younger and my legs have plenty of muscle.

I guess if I accidentally don’t reach the muscle then the pin will be subQ and it’s also similar in effectiveness, right?

Yeah, pretty much. Unless you’re running large amounts of gear, I really don’t see the point in pinning IM to be honest. Given that this is in the TRT forum, I imagine simple TRT doses… SubQ is fine for this.

I do my shots using a 1ml insulin syringe with a 1/2 inch long 26-31g needle ( my go-to is 29g) and pinning in the middle of the lateral deltoid. I’ve done as much as 1ml/day for months at a time with no issues. It’s basically skin on top of muscle in that area so a longer needle isn’t needed and the shots are easy, literally painless and you can’t miss.

I marked the area with a blue circle.

Thanks for the suggestion. Is that IM or subQ? Do you have to aspirate if you do it that way in that area?

I do the same with a 25G these days.
I seem to maybe hit a nerve, I get an involuntary muscle twitch as I am injecting sometimes.
Has this happened to you?

IM (there’s very little fat in that area). I haven’t aspirated since I started TRT and several (probably a hundred out of many thousand) times I’ve had blood run out the injection site and haven’t had any issues. It’s not worth the hassle imo. I’ve been in plenty of surgeries through my job and rarely do the doc/nurse aspirate unless doing IV shots. Regardless that area has very little large vessels close enough to the surface to hit. That said, aspirating won’t hurt so if it’s a cause of anxiety then do what makes you feel comfortable.

I’m sure it has though not recent enough to recall specifically. It could be that you are injecting too fast or like you said you may be hitting a nerve. Either way if the twitching dissapates it’s likely not an issue. My shoulders are a foot wider than my waist and when sleeping on my side I occasionally get twitching in the delts. It goes away shortly after.

Im that way too, makes sleeping a real pain in the ass on shoulder day. Hadnt considered self pinning shoulders, ill have to give it a try.
