It happens sometimes. If you go in straight but move the needle a bit at an angle (which can happen if you’re using a non-dominant hand or whatever) you’ll get some blood. It’s not a big deal. If you’re still bleeding minutes after then maybe I’d get a little concerned, but otherwise you’re fine. After all, you’re sticking something sharp into your muscle. There’s blood in there.
I’ve been taking two shots a week for 88 weeks and have never once aspirated. I don’t see the need. The barrel is clear of air and only has oil in it, everything is sterile, and it’s going into a muscle. I’m sure I’ve technically hit a vein a number of times, but it’s never caused an issue. Instructions from my doctor were to not—explicitly—aspirate.
I’ve been pinning for probably 7+ years and have never aspirated.
I used to get more blood when pinning middle quads, now I pin way up high on my leg, almost near my hip. No pain, no bleeding, and quick dispersal due to proximity to the hip joint. (at least thats what i think)
See pic. I pin where the red circle is. Alternating sides each time. My wife also pins my glutes when I ask.
Fantastic - will try pinning further up and see how that goes.
-Current spot is getting abit tight with the EOD pinning so would be nice to switch it up abit.
Not a fan of the glutes - struggle to keep steady when pinning myself and get horrible pain from the movement XD
I’ve heard that straight shot of oil and test directly into a vein will make you wish you were dead. Is this not true or do you think that maybe you’ve just been really lucky?
I was asking that because my doc told me to make sure I aspirate every time to make sure that I’m not in a vein. Just trying to compare notes because I should be getting my test from the pharmacy today and start pinning tonight.
Just when I feel confident that I’ve taken every precaution and covered every base, a discussion like this comes along and makes me doubt it all over again. Guess I just gotta just do it and see what’s going to work me!
It never hurts to be prepared and to have all the information before jamming shape things into your body. You’ll find a comfortable way to do it. It takes some trial and (painful) error, but it gets easy pretty fast. Pain is a great motivator.
