A Sprinter's Dream...

What are your guys current bests in the 200m & 100m, how old is everyone too?

I’m 15, got 12.2 for 100 but never done the 200. Mccabe is 17 i think with 11.9 in 100 n 23.60 in 200m, 400 time of 51.6 i think n think tht ooahhh got 11.35 in 100m handtimed a few weeks ago, which is pretty damn good for 17 or 16…

I’m still here.

I’m looking into competitng 11th Jan.
Is it to late to send off an entry form or whatever?

And also I’ve only ever competed in school competitions- where I wore t-shirt and shorts.

What will I need to wear to compete in these competitions?

Cheers

Just run in some sort of athletics vest and some shorts or if you dont have that a few people where skintight stuff, just run in whatever you’re comfortable in. No it’s not too late, i sent mine off 4 days before the competition and it got there in time and you also have the option to pay on the day but it is 1 pound extra per event, its up to you. Hope to see you there, what events were you thinking of?

So some people where like Nike pro stuff or under armour?

If you pay on the day do you still need to print off an entry form?

I was just thinking about concentrating on the 60m.

Are you gonna be at the competition?

yeh im gonna be there on the 11th and me and mccabe are gonna be at the one on the fourth if u wna come to that too/instead of, you dont need to print out entry forms they have them there to be filled in.

Go for a 200m aswell, it’ll be good stamina practice and if you’re as good as i think you are at the 100 you’ll get a decent 200 time even if your stamina is just ok. You should do very well in the 60 though based on your strength and 100 times.

What are you aiming for? I’d say you could get around 7.0-7.3. Just put yourself in one of the more competitive heats and hopefully you’ll do well, we wont compete though because we’re in different age groups, however you and mccabe could do a 200 together on the 4th if you choose to come. good luck and hope to see you there.

Ye I wouldn’t mind that actually. The sooner the bettter.

Ye probably should give the 200 a shot, need to run it first and see what I think.

Also…

how do you guys manage drinking/smoking- nights out, and women. Fucking hell sending me mad, everything that comes with them as a package.

Drinking and women- Going out socialising having fun, but there needs to be a limit for an aspiring sprinter.

Women fuck with your head and no one can give you advice cos no one else has a clue either do they?

Smoking- I’m just saying there’s a lot on offer on nights out, and friends etc.

Today I did some sprints and after that messed about taking shots and going in goal.

Sprints
15mx2
25mx2
60mx1 - 7.13
100mx1 - 11.55

I’m happy with these times. I’ll have to admit to drinking regularly recently

im 15, so i cant get into clubs haha, i dont drink or smoke. Are you wanting to make sprinting into your career? cause if you are i would limit the drinking, cut out the smoking. Depends how seriously you want to take it. From looking at your 60 n 100 times i can say that your 60 is far superior, at the indoor competition i go to people who get around the 7.1-7.2 mark get 10.8-11.2. So i think 200m would be good for your stamina, you also probably need to work on your technique for the final stage of the race when you’ve reached maximum velocity and you’;re striding out but you’ll learn this when you join a club in the summer hopefully. you coming on the 4th aswell as the 11th?

Ye during usual times of the year I wouldn’t be out 24/7.
I’d love to do something with sprinting.

I was tiring near the end of the 100, I haven’t done speed-endurance work in ages.
I’m definately gonna join a club, I’m gonna ring Claireville Stadium- where Mandale AC compete.

My dad lives not far away from Manchester, so if my brother goes down for the weekend I will definately see about paying on the day and competing on the 4th.

How’s your preparation going?

Havent ran on a track in a week so i dont know what im like atm, i feel like i am more explosive in short bursts of speed but i think my stamina has gone down since the last time i competed and im doing 60,200 n 300m so i need some stamina which ill have to work on. Got training on thursday, ill see how it goes then.

I’m gonna get to track as well tomorrow.

The reason I’m thinking more about the 11th is it gives me more time to prepare- more weight sessions, more acceleration and top speed sessions and more speed-endurance sessions.

I suppose, but if it’s your first competition then it shouldnt really matter, it’s just an open, your just aiming to get used to competition for next year really, just try and relax, its really hard i was shaking with nerves the first time.

I’ve decided to get some more training in, and then run next sunday the 11th.

I’m off to the track now to do some max velocity- top end speed work.

Then the gym later- Max effort Upper body.
And hopefully Max effort lower body tomorrow.

Sprints

15mx3

Flying 15’s

Flying 30’s

Flying 50’s
x2

I need to sort out my training week, to prepare me for sunday.

This isn’t simple due to the weather- dark by the time I get home from college.

I’ll update this soon.

Max effort upper

1.Incline bench press
worked upto 100kgx5!
That’s a nice PB

2.DB Press palms in
worked upto 32.5kgx8

3.Chin-ups and pull-ups
x whatever, need to get a real plan going with these

4.Zottman curls
10kg,x2x12
12.5kgx9

5.Barbell shrugs
Overhand grip worked upto 105kg6-10

I’ll most probably do Rep Upper on thursday and Max effort lower on wednesday.

It’s rare to get a chance to do any running when I finish college at 4pm.

But tomorrow I finish at 1:30pm, so I’ll get down to the track for some acceleration work. And after some rest I’ll head to the gym for some mixed lower body and some repetition upper.

I’ll be training with a club on Thursday, apparently they train every Tuesday and Thursday. So that’ll help!
