Youre not old, not even close. Besides, your a powerlifter, you wouldnt be scared by chalk and loud noises.
I assume you mean the “elbows flared whole motion, short stroke”…by keeping my elbows somewhat flared out the whole rom I feel it in my chest more, and by short stroking it (meaning a 3/4 rom), the tension never leaves my chest and imo makes the press more difficult.
