Let's Get weird

Starting this log as I open a new chapter. Just got the job I’ve been working on getting for the past 3 years, finally have a chance to earn more than just a “living”, and finally recovering from the burnout brought on by injuries and 6 months of extensive defatting. I tore my meniscus in October and have had some serious struggles just maintaining my bodyweight the past few months. Hopefully, all of that is behind me for the most part now and shit can get real again.

I’m using Chad Smith’s Juggernaut Method and IF’ing. The training system is new to me, the nutritional system isn’t. Leangains is awesome and I probably won’t ever go back. Working on slowly getting big, fast, and strong again and eating rice like a Saiyan warrior.

Anyways, onto training:

Upper body warm up- band external rotations x12 x2, band pull-apart x12 x2, kettlebell traction to get loose

a. Chest Pass- 16# x8 x2

Nice and fast, lots of snap

b. Bench-
warm ups
135x5
165x3
185x1
205x18

Fuck, that’s a lot of reps. Stopped mostly because I got kind of bored. Probably could have ground out a few more. Looks like training max is moving up for bench heading into the next wave.

c. Dumbbell Incline- 80x10 x3 deep stretch, slight pause at the bottom. SUCKED.
d. TRX Fly- bw+flack jacket x15 x2 fffuuuuuu
e. Trap Machine Row- 180x10 x4

These are new and they’re amasin. Basically sit “into” the shrug machine with torso just below a 45 degree angle and row up with the low handles with a good hard flex. Not about the weight on this one.

f. Pull up- bw x12 x2
g. Preacher Curl- 45x12 x4 Nothing heavy, just getting some blood in there. Did them sloooow.

Spidey- glad I was helpful. What I do now is so 180 degrees from what is mainstream in the popular fitness press, even with the recent fad status of IF and high carb diets. I wasted a lot of time dicking around with stuff that really had no scientific basis, so I’m glad I saved you from the same thing.

This afternoon:

Warm up- stretch hip flexors and hamstrings, lateral hip swings x10, forward hip swings x10, groiners x10, low hurdle steps x10 each way

a. Seated Box Jump- 32" x2 x4

First few were a little sketch, but by the end things were firing and I was flying pretty good. <3 Jumping.

b. Front Squat, beltless-
warm ups
120x4
145x3
170x1
180x12 buggh choked myself out with the bar

c. Hack Squat- 270x10 x4
d. Single Leg Extension- 50x10 x5 gotta keep this meniscus happy
e. Dumbbell Shrugs- 90x20 x3

Lean forward a little bit to get more of the traps involved. Feels good man.

f. Sled Push, low handle- 135 x40 yards x4

These SUCKED. Have to push out in the parking lot and the pavement isn’t exactly even. I had BG sit on the sled, she weighs the same as 3 plates so it works out.

I trained fasted today, in case anyone is interested in how my training days look right now, today shook out as follows:

  • Fast until 1430
  • 2 scoops MAG-10+5g creatine before/during training. Also had a shot of GPC and a sugar free red bull before lifting because I’m still undergoing the process of getting my clearance together for the new job and I don’t want the DMAA in my normal pre workout setting off any false alarms.
  • 1630: 6 slices ezekiel bread with 2 wedges of laughing cow and 4 oz turkey, 3 scoops Syntha-6, 400mg ALA
  • 2000: 6 oz chicken, 2 cups cooked macaroni+3/8 c 2% cheddar, 1 c lime sherbert, 400mg ALA
  • 0000: 3 oz chicken, 2 cups rice, 400mg ALA

What are you going to do when I don’t weigh 3 plates anymore? Think we can fit me and one of the meatballs on the sled? Or maybe 2 of the meatballs.

Yesterday:

Was running WAY behind because Google decided to crash right as I was trying to send in my final paperwork for the new job. An hour and a half later, I was finally able to email a 5 page .pdf and the ample time I had budgeted for training and eating had been whittled down to about an hour. LESGO

Warm up- band external rotation x12 x2, band reverse flys x12 x2, kb shoulder traction

a. Overhead Throw- 16#x5 x2

b. Press-
warm ups

135x14 Skipped one or two of the rx’d warm up sets. Fuck that noise, I had shit to get done.

c. Lever Press- 70x10 x4
d. Cable Lateral Raise- 15x12 x3 Couldn’t make these feel right. Ditching them.
e. Chins- bw x8 x4 hold at the top, tried to touch sternum to the bar. CASH.
f. Dead Stop Dumbbell Rows- 105x12 x3 Pretty sure these were the cause of my headache last night, see below
g1. Seated Face Pull- 27.5x20 x3
g2. Articulated Pulldown- 60x20 x3 *both of these were on individual pullies, so the weight is per side. this superset fucked me up BAD.
h. Rolling Dumbbell Extension- 35x15 x2 token tricep work.

So I finished this in right at 60 minutes and put down an ungodly amount of food. 2 pop tarts, 3c spaghetti, and about 3/4 lb combined of chicken and beef. Then off to work at around 4:45. Around 6 I started not feeling so well, and by the time I got home, “not so well” had evolved into massive migraine headache and desire to do nothing besides sleep for at least half a day. I think I may have officially reached my threshold for carb consumption. Because of this, I’m going to start eating like a normal person on my high and moderate carb days. I just need too many calories for IF to be efficient for my goals on these days. I’ll still fast on low days because fasting makes those as about as easy as it makes high days difficult. Doing 4 meals a day, still not doing 6, because that’s stupid. I think the deadstop rows may have also caused some neck strain that added to my headache. Certain moves do that to me, including hise shrugs. I’ll give them a few more opportunities before I write them off though.
