How would you suggest going about adding overhead figure 8 walks into a program? Should it be done first as a warm-up or at the end of the workout on delt days. Or should it be done on days other than delt days? It’s a kickk-ass exercise that is deceivingly hard! I want to add it and your comments would be appreciated.
If you have lagging rotator cuff strength, perform them at the beginning of your upper body workout. If not, you can perform them anywhere in your workout. Glad you like the exercise.
Chad I also like this exercise. However as you may remember I have “lagging” rotator cuff issues(post: Unstable shoulders). I’m doing these on one of my workout days. However I like to preform them at the end of my workout. The only reasoning I can see to put them first is to train them when these muscles are fresh. This doesn’t make sense to me as I would rather have them fresh for the big lifts. Unless your going by the theory that what is trained first gets the best response…I think I just answered my own question. Any harm in doing them last? Thanks Chad.
Arcane,
No harm at all in doing the overhead’s last, as I mentioned in my first response. I usually perform them towards the end of the workout with myself and my clients. But if improving overhead shoulder stability is a primary goal, performing them first is a good idea. It will not hinder your performance on compound upper body exercises. Try it, you’ll see. But all in all, either method is fine.
Thanks Chad. I’ll give it a go…after I change my current workouts in a few weeks. Still itching to try Diversity for Hypertrophy. Ciao.
