A Question for Bill About Low LH/FSH Levels

Bill,

After finding out that my testosterone levels were in the abnormal low range, my doctor tested my FSH and LH levels, the results were: FSH 1.5U/L range 1.4-18.1 LH 1.3U/L range 1.5-9.3. I am scheduled to see a endocrinologist next week, could you possibly give some insight as to what therapies are available to correct this problem.

Thank You

First, this one test is only saying there’s
a chance that your LH and FSH may be low.
LH and FSH are both released in pulses by
the pituitary, and levels drop drastically
inbetween the pulses since the half-lives
are extremely short. In other words, if
the test happens to be taken shortly after
a pulse, readings are much higher than if
the test happened to be taken shortly before
the next pulse.

The accurate method for measuring LH is
to draw blood every 15 minutes for three hours,
and rely on the average. This of course is
not usually done because it is such a pain.

At the very least, a second test would be
called for before assuming anything is wrong.

Clomid is I think the best treatment for
this condition, if you actually have it –
although other things, such as correcting
sleep problems or stress problems, could
be the real issue.

Hope it goes well for you with this!

Bill,

Thank you for answering my question. Since my testosterone levels were in the abnormal low range, could the low FSH/LH levels be the direct cause? Do testosterone levels vary as much as FSH/LH? For the past two and a half years, my sex drive has diminshed as well as my ejaculation sensation and strength, and my energy levels have also decreased ( I am only 35 years old). The only times when I felt close to normal was during several cycles of Androsol/Finasol.

Thanks again for the help
