Well I tower over you at 5 feet and maybe 8 inches, and have hit 195 a few times, hovering around 190 most of the time. Would love to be disciplined enough to do all this without the fluff, but there is no doubt that more food equals more power.
All your weight is in your shoulders, mine is all in my legs and arse ![]()
I don’t think I have particularly big shoulders. My body has decided that it will prioritize my muffin top for all gains.
It should be said…a bit of belly fairly directly and clearly helps with squatting.
Noted and appreciated, @Cyrrex and @simo74 .
Im scrawny all over and any weight above 184lbs or so has always been in my spare tire. Ive been up to 200 before. Then eating responsibly and a couple miles running brings me back quickly, deflating the spare tire.
It would be awesome to add real lean mass to shoulders, chest, ass… i don’t have an ass at all!
How hard did those squat sets feel and how powerful do you feel when you do them?
Good question. Hard to answer. The 3rd set (which i didn’t get on video) was 225lb, and before the set i kinda thought i could be a badass and go for 12 reps. In the event that proved unattainable- rep 10 felt like all i could do, and i kinda melted onto the floor after racking.
I don’t know if that answers your question or not ![]()
3/29 and 3/30, JSSP week 8 day 2/3
Early morning babysitting and a little lifting in the garage. Yesterday couldn’t get much in, a few upright rows and decline benches. Today was better:
6 rounds: pullups, barbell rows, lateral raises.
6 rounds: incline bench press, ab rollouts.
Set of light pec flyes at the end.
Have been eating unsustainably large amounts of mostly meat and eggs. Looking forward to squats tomorrow.
Yup!
I noticed a dramatic decrease in bar speed in between sets, so I wanted to have your opinion of how tired you were.
3/31/2022 Thursday JSSP w8d4
Squats:
6x135, 6x185, 6x225
6x245
6x245
6x255
EMOM for 10 minutes:
1x255
Better than last week, because I definitely hit depth on these. Wasn’t feeling great, and started antibiotics last night for a potential staph infection, but didn’t seem to affect much.
Couldn’t get a video without violating some social norms ![]()
Biceps, lats, and abs are sore from yesterday.
Just do what I do and ask a random stranger to hold your camera and video it for you. LOL
Squats are ok for the most part from the angle we can see from.
Just ensure the bracing is braced as hard as you can. Then Brace harder.
Maybe some knee cave I’m seeing? It’s not alot. Remember to push knees out.
You do alot of reps. Honestly I think super squats would do you well… especially with your limited time per week to train. Twice a week would work well for you. Abbreviated version of the program also. And lots of milk, eggs and steak.
183 lbs at 6 foot…
I’m 6 foot, 235lbs. Haha.
This made me smile and I know it will make @T3hPwnisher crack a grin too.
Lol if he runs Super Squats he’ll definitely achieve more than a 315 lb squat.
Super squats!
Do it. 2 times a week is fine. That will get you to a 315lb squat.
Honestly you could do it once every 5-6 days. Would work just fine for most normal folk. Depending of course on recent training history/volumes etc.
At what weight would i start? Book says use your 10-rep weight… my recent 10rm is 225 and i do believe i would die, let alone add 5-10 lbs per week.
You start with moderate poundages (a weight that won’t murder you on day one).
I’d start around 80-85% of that 10rm.
Do you have the book? I do not but I’m told it is pretty clear on how to go about it.
That is the point. Keeping up with this programme is HARD. Almost impossible. So you are left with 2 choices.
1 - Fail
2 - Do odd what ever it takes to keep up. And in this case that means recover / eat.
I ran a sort of similar programme during in lock down. It was not the full programme. I did not have the right kit or enough weight.
All I had was 140kg of weight. At the time I could do 5 reps with 140kg. Just about. With in 8 weeks of starting this programme I could do 23 reps with 140kg.
Do not let being scared of the programme stop you from trying. Let it be why you succeed. Look at the end numbers and remember the only way to get there is hard work and fuel your growth. Make the fear work for you. You can do it. It is not easy but if you want it you can achieve it.
If it is ANY sort of comfort I will be thinking about Super Squats proper in the Autumn. If I can do it at 37 you can do it at 32.
@wiseman83 Thanks for looking. I’m definitely struggling to keep the brace up toward the end of the set. Knees do want to cave!
Is that because you think I like a lot of reps LOL? I HATE reps! Haha can’t wait to get down in the 2-4 rep range, now you’re asking me to go to 20 LOL!
I wonder how heavy I’ll need to get… I’ve been just above 200lbs before, never by much.
This will be interesting.
@simo74 @tlgains @carlbm @wiseman83 I appreciate all the SuperSquats input. As I’ve stated I’m going to continue what I’m on until it runs its course, just a few more weeks. At that point I’m willing to attempt this; I’ve ruled out SS before due to other things in my life. But perhaps I could get to “yes”.
I do have the book.
For the time being, the next 2 weeks have sets of 8 on Monday and sets of 4 on Thursday, then a week or two of 6 on Monday and 2 on Thursday. Then I suppose a final “attempt” day the following week and see how high I can go. If I got 295x1 or 2 that would be worth something, IIRC I got stapled by 295lb back in December.
