A New Animal: JDM135 for 1-2-3-4 plates

Noted, thank you. TBH I don’t need to be cheap on stuff like this. But if you go all-out on a sandbag, and you go all-out on every other little purchase, next thing ya know you can get yourself into trouble! So… we’ll see. The cheapest short-term path back to sandbaggery is another seabag, which I’m guessing is around $20. But if it only lasts 6 weeks it’s not so cheap in the long run.

Buy cheap, buy twice.

JSSP W4D2: Random Push
Had fun today.
Bench press triples: 135, 185, 205, 205.
SS DB rows 4x3x115

Push press: Triples, a heavy single, then one strict press at 135. IDK the weight, probably 165 for the top triple and 175 for the single.

SS several pullups

DB pec flye, DB bench press, DB curl. All using 45lb. Several sets of 5 each.

Left feeling great. I could use more gym days that make me feel that way!

Ironmind makes a pretty reasonably priced and reliable sandbag.

Slightly behind the times here, but we also had similar issues with our eldest. Every night, about an hour after he’d gone to sleep, he’d throw up violently. Lots of time spent holding a crying baby, coated in vomit. He also had lots and lots of issues with acid reflux (which has another name in kids, that i don’t remember), which would wake him up in the night too.

Edit: @jdm135 i forgot to actually add the useful bit here: both of these were stopped with fairly simple changes to our prebed habits. Cutting out milk before bed fixed the vomitting, and something else stopped the reflux. I wish i could remember what it was.

@T3hPwnisher that is very reasonably priced, thanks! I’d have never checked there.
The small is 100lbs max, the large is up to 300lb; I’m using around 150lb now, do you foresee that being an issue having an extremely oversized bag? Specifically around the ability to pack it down fairly tightly?
Oh hell, maybe I should suck it up, buy both, get some use out of the 100lb and then fill the bigger one with 200lb to really create some pain. I bet I can get to a 405lb deadlift without touching a barbell if I spent some time picking a 200lb bag…
Have you read their book on sandbag training?

I’ve loaded 200lbs before, and with play in the bag, so long as you tie it down tight, use plenty of zip ties and gorilla tape, it shouldn’t be an issue. You could always use a mixture of sand and peagravel to take up space, or sand and fabric.

I own the book and leafed through it once or twice. I didn’t really give it diligence, since I wasn’t in a space where I needed a full sandbag training program. I’m sure the internet has it all sorted out, but resources are never a bad thing.

Pro-tips: Use the sandbag liners, as they keep sand from leaking out of the seams of the bag. When you fill the big, zip tie the opening shut, then shove a tennis ball on top of the fabric you zip tied shut, then zip tie the tennis ball shut inside of the sandbag opening. This will do a good job of keeping sand from leaking out the top.

…but is it working? Do you see/feel improvements?

I don’t. Its the last full week of this, then vacation then start peaking down, so maybe I’ll realize benefits from it down the road. For the moment, its nothing but misery at relatively low weight. Id be much happier doing triples and doubles.

But i was/am willing to commit to the plan.

3/5 Saturday 2 mile run.
Wife maxed out pushups and got 40! then straight into a minute of plank and 30-second hang from a bar. She’s a badass and I love her. In her 30s, with 4 kids, perfect shape. Works like machinery. Cannot be persuaded to train with a barbell though

3/5 2 mile run
3/6 pressing challenge.
135lb, 3 EMOM for 30 minutes = 90 reps, all push pressed.
why stop at 90? felt great and kept going 3 more minutes, wanted to do 4 on the last set to hit 100. I ended up doing 6 for 102 reps in 33 minutes.

Which proves i could have done more in the 30 minutes.
