I do use a false grip. Don’t have a belt, and never used one. I know it would get the numbers up, particularly on squats and DL… and probably help me break the press 135 barrier…
All the strong guys use a belt, so why the hell not.
Thanks. Maybe one of these days!
5/23
135lb clean-and-press, 60 total reps under 25 minutes.
Was gonna do doubles for 30 minutes EMOM but knew I could do better, but cant sustain triples the whole time. So I did EMOMs either double or triples, until I got to 60.
Kids were out there the whole time, and 10 minutes in I had to break for diaper and other necessities, so it didn’t have the whole desired effect, but I did what I could just like my main man @ChongLordUno
Edit PS: is it a clean-and-press if it’s a power clean and push press? Or am I misusing a technical term?
Power clean and push press is probably the best definition of a C&P.
Now that’s what I’m talking about mate
Dad shit. We just get our heads down and get the work in
Since I started the day off so well I decided to make it 100 total reps. Its early afternoon and i just did the last one - did the remaining 40 reps in clusters of 4 between family duties, grocery run, diapers etc.
@T3hPwnisher that’s what I’m talking about. At the end of the day the aggregate work is good, but it would have added a big conditioning element if I’d had time do do it all at once.
5/24 Monday
Gotta split up my leg day into a deadlift session this morning and a front squat session tomorrow, presumably.
Every deadlift set proceeded by 3 vertical jumps.
DEADLIFT gravy 5/3/1 cycle 2, 1’s week:
135x10
185x5
225x5
255x3
290x11
Shrugs 225x27
In and out in 30 minutes, time to get to work.
I second both of these reccomendations, for what it’s worth.
Turns out you were right!
Using @Cyrrex and @aldebaran 's suggestions to a) not let my wrist cock back so far and b) take an even bigger breath first and c) lean back a bit more, I walked out to the garage last night and strict pressed 95, 115, then 135. Wish I’d filmed it - a sorry rep it was, felt like it took 20 seconds from forehead height to lockout, but now that I’ve done it once I feel like a barrier is broken and I’ll be doing it smoothly in no time.
This is a major life goal accomplished (is that sad? haha!) for ME; yeah some people can just walk up and press this who don’t even train, but I worked for years and I got it.
So a big THANK YOU for all the tips, video feedback, and positive comments from everybody over the past few months!

Front Squat
Goal was 180 for 10 EMOM doubles, I ended up doing 14 minutes EMOM to get all the reps:
6 minutes doubles, the next 8 minutes singles. It was HARD. Got the 20 total reps, but damn it’s heavy.
Widowmaker: Front squat 125lb
Last week I got 14, this week I was doing even worse but from sheer spite I made it to 15 reps. I was dying… well felt like it. Weight kept going forward, I couldn’t keep my elbows up, so it was crushing on my wrists… Not sure how to train that part but maybe I should find a way. Anyway I was dripping sweat and had to lay on the floor after. But I’m satisfied, did a good job, now I have a full day of real work to do.
Wish I could like that more than once, you’ve worked tirelessly to hit this goal and you’ve smashed it, whilst losing weight, epic work, well done!
Dude, that’s awesome! Congrats on the PR. And yeah, once you know it you can do it, that is half the battle won. Now for 145!
Hell yes man congrats on the PR!
That’s awesome man! Great job! Proof that hard work pays
That’s fabulous! I knew you had it. Grindy lifts suck, but I think they’re the worst yet most satisying on presses.
So if 135 was a major life goal, that must mean 225 is next? ![]()
Huge congrats - that is really good on you.
And no, not sad at all. You did set a goal and worked patiently to reach it - that is a show of great persistency and discipline. Well done!
Awesome man!
PRtastic
Well done my man
ROFL!

(Don’t bother reading this)
Ya know, gotta be careful with weight training goals. I saw a dude in the grocery store wearing shorts the other day. He doesn’t look like he lifts, but he’s only 50% heavier than me, yet his knees - the bony part - are twice the diameter of mine or more. I see him and I’m like, OK this guy could beat my squat UNTRAINED, and in a year he’d be 400+lb. My knees are like little glass clock gears in comparison.
This applies to shoulders too - some people just have thick bone frames to press all that weight with, I’m built like a broomstick.
I’m not bitching about genetics, but the key thing here is that comparing myself to others - with different body types than mine - is a losing proposition. So I’m trying not to hold myself to certain standards regarding weight lifted, even as a percentage of bodyweight. Do I want a bigger squat? Absolutely. Would I consider murdering someone if it got me a 225lb press? Perhaps. Would I try roids? hell no.
I have a work ethic, discipline, patience, and - another key variable - LOTS of other things in my life to focus those talents on besides weight training goals.
–end rant–
TLDR: At the moment, I’ll continue my press program, it still has value for a few more weeks. For other lifts, I would benefit from having some goals, should probably do some thinking and hammer some out.
when i see that, can’t help myself
Congratulations on getting it. What was you RPS (RP @simo74)
