A New Animal: JDM135 for 1-2-3-4 plates

I also breathe at the top. I find on DL and OHP that I just can’t breathe as well at the bottom. If my rack position were better on ohp I’d try it more, but my shoulder mobility is garbage

4/25
Sunday
60 swings last night, and 2 eggs with cheese just before bed like my man @alex_uk . Wanted carbs but this is better for me.
This morning, as a challenge to myself, 200 pushups.
It SUCKED! mostly did sets of 15-20, took over 13 minutes, definitely an area that can improve!

Been watching some more Alsruhe stuff. He has a program called “mass builder” that looks cool… I may buy it and find a way to fit the work into my schedule.
I can’t do 4 90-minute gym trips weekly, which it calls for, but I can find a way to spread and split the work. We’ll see!
@boilerman aren’t you starting one of his programs soon? Which one?

Yup I’ll be starting his powerbuilder template in a few weeks. It seems like a good mix of strength and hypertrophy work with some strongman and mindset challenge stuff too.

And conditioning… It’s all giant sets and he has optional conditioning every lifting day… Gonna be a sweaty summer.

Awesome. How soon do you start? I’m at least 6 weeks away from any major shakeup I think.

I’m going to start mid/late May depending on which days I want to use for lifting.

Widowmaker

That camera angle is for you @aldebaran I think it’s the best I can do!

This session was tough.
On deadlift, I was taking several breaths between rep after rep 4 or so, was determined to take it out to 10 and I got it, but felt fried after.
About 5 minutes of rest, then I started the EMOM front squat doubles, which was tough again, just feeling fried! The plan with these is to keep the weight until it doesn’t kill me to do them, then increase the weight again. Pretty simple progression LOL.
Then the widowmaker - I’m thinking if I get above 20 reps I can raise the weight, and I gotta say, a year ago there’s no way I would have gotten 17 reps with 115lb. So I’m happy with this for today, I guess.

My pecs are DESTROYED from 200 pushup challenge yesterday morning. I mean they HURT! so I did a bunch of light machine flyes to get blood into them.

Then I skipped a shower, and instead used the extra time to leg press a bunch. Hah.

Ouch high reps front squats… that’s tough man, good job! Honestly your form is great. Look at your feet, rep 3 you found your groove and BAM you’re locked it! You lean a bit forward but that’s just your anatomy (I’m the same) and we have to make an even biger effort of trying to get these elbows up! Honestly really good technique and effort you’ll reach these 20 reps soon

Oh yeah never dissing the push-ups again are you? :joy:

Your form was awesome on those front squats! Definitely brutal! I was trying to not get distracted by the guy doing the SWANGIN’ curls there behind you lol it looked like he was bouncing the weights to the beat of the music!

@davemccright thanks! And lolol I had to watch again and I just saw that! This dude is… different… does stuff like this all the time. At 1:10 in the video is where he gets started, for anyone just joining us.

@aldebaran I’m not sure I ever dissed them, but I definitely have a new respect for them and won’t leave them out of my routine in future! I’m still in pain! Also, thank you!!

Thanks @boilerman @Bagsy @ChongLordUno
Yeah Boilerman if I weren’t fried from deads and EMOMs I’d have had it.
Chong, I really have been pushing it, and amazingly still finding the energy despite (or because) life otherwise demands so much of me.
Bagsy thanks, ya know I’m not strong by the standards of this forum, but for some reason I’ve made FS my own. Everyone hates them, I know exactly why, and that’s why I do them.

I “like” front squats, or, more accurately, dislike them less than back squats lol

Back squats have a special place in hell IMO. They are soul suckers.

I can’t/don’t front squat though so they may very well suck as much or more.

100% dude, even your last rep in the video looked strong

Fixed that for you.

Lol now I feel bad. If it were strong I shouldn’t have racked it! But you know that panic attack feeling? That’s exactly what front squats feel like. Literally. You should try it haha!

No man that wasn’t meant to be a criticism at all, no reason to feel bad! Actually the opposite, they looked great and even that last one moved well with good form which is awesome.

I would love to try front squatting but, like power cleans, getting into the rack position is an issue with my shoulders… especially now since they’re not feeling 100%. When I ran GMM I replaced FS with zercher squats which I REALLY loved. I will definitely work on my mobility though at some point. I’d like to see what all the fuss is about haha

I probably have little to no useful insight because clean grip has always come naturally to me, but have you tried using straps or crossing your arms? Those might be more for wrist discomfort idk
