A New Animal: JDM135 for 1-2-3-4 plates

How are you breaking these up? Because I want in on a competition, but I’m not actually sure i can do that many diamond push ups.

Its weird because my whole life diamonds were hard. Then recently I started doing them and they got really easy.

I’d say the competition should be for 5 rounds instead of 4. 4 got too fast and easy.

JDM’s assault on the press
Last week I crashed and burned on press. This week my subconscious was totally focused on “getting it next time”. I rested better, stressed less, ate some carbs.
Last night I ate Gnocci (the only pasta worth eating) with my meatballs, watched like 3 Alsruhe videos on pressing, and of course did my 60 swings.
Didn’t sleep well but such is life.
So today, with the goal of PRESS 95# 10 sets of 8, here’s what I got:
Barx10
65x10
85x5
Work sets with 95#:
4 sets of 8 - shoulders feel engorged
7+1 - hit failure, rack the bar for 12 breaths, press again - triceps feel like alien parts attached to my arms!
6+2
6+2
5+2
4+2
4+2
Brutal. But I know I gave it everything I had and did a hell of a lot better than last week. Rest-pause was just another way to get closer to the goal.

Exhausted, but then:
115x1 - solid rep. Actually said “Fuck yeah” as I racked the bar (very uncharacteristic of me to vocalize in the gym)
120x1 - Solid rep.

Tabata-style with empty hex bar, 20 secs repping, 10 secs locked out overhead, 20 secs repping, 10 secs locked out overhead. That’s something to use in the future for sure.

Knocked out around 10 pullups and 16 toes-to-bar between sets, nothing to strenuous.

Felt really freakin good. I can’t wait to get to heavier pressing but I have to earn it by accomplishing the 10x8@95, or such is the deal I’ve made myself.

Edit: also played with this, which I’d never seen before. Wish the grips were wider:

(Giving tris a break from the diamonds after yesterday)
Then I did this athlean-x video for abs which sucked:

60 swings last night

This morning: HTFU, 5 rounds in 7:37 Major PR
The 4th round was only 6:06 - also a major PR

Empty bar, tabata stuff:
4 minutes 8 rounds, 20 sec on 10 sec off, Z press for the first 4 rounds, standing press for the next 4, holy cow that’s painful! What a pump in the shoulders.
I don’t have plates at home so I have been neglecting my free bar, but clearly I can make progress with it. That kicked my ass. The Z press needs some getting used to I think.

I love z press…its always been one of my favorites. Nice work on the pr too

Glad you’ve made the lifestyle tweaks to feel a little more sane inside and outside of training. It sounds like the one off day was just that – an off day.

He have a lot of inventive stuff always. Did not know that one, will have look - getting it all done in ten minutes sounds tempting - but will probably puke afterwards or something.

Last night: 60 swings as always.
This morning:
Up at 4:50 so I could get this done.
Ate some carbs last night, and had toast this morning on top of my 4-egg+2-bacon omelet, and it paid off big-time.
DEADLIFT 5/3/1: 3’s week.
135x10
185x5
205x3
235x3
265x12

FRONT SQUAT EMOM, 10 rounds of doubles, 170lbs.
Crushed these, I think last time I used 170 I had to add time and drop to singles.
Got the last set on video, will post later.

FRONT SQUAT WIDOWMAKER
105lb 23 reps
Brutal, got it on video. Will post later

Need to practice having heavy things overhead so
PUSH PRESS
Singles
105,115,125,135,135,135, 135AAASHIT!
I had that last one all the way up but didn’t “lock”, I was all in my head, kinda threw it back and panicked and it crashed down into the front rack postion… No harm done. But I need to set aside some time to drill this movement because it was purely a technique problem, I could have moved a lot more weight.

Buncha ab stuff - shins to bar, decline situps, captain’s chair, etc. Much of it supersetted between work sets.

GREAT session today. Some carbs (whole grain english muffins) last night and this morning paid off. Also my lower back never felt like a weak link, swings probably get some credit there.
Anabolic AF right now - drank a half-gallon of whole milk (I never have milk) before lunch, and now about to eat 0.6lb of ground beef.

60 swings last night.
This morning, 20 rows/side, practiced KB presses about 5 reps per side, 2.1 mile run untimed.

Crushing it so far this morning.
Breakfast in between KB at home workout and gym (on the way to work) bonus session:

5 eggs
Mozzarella
Salsa
Half a whole grain English muffin with plant based butter

3 flameout 1 multivitamin

4/21
60 swings last night.
This morning before normal people wake up I harden up:
HTFU 5 rounds in 7:28 a new PR by 9 seconds

Then a solid breakfast
Then a bonus gym trip, just to do 4 triples overhead, and get used to having more weight up there.

PRESS
45x6
95x3
115x3
120x3
120x3
120x3 like the fight of my life

Done.
Then attempted to 30-10-30 front squat 135lbs like @dagill2 and failed miserably. The first negative sank like a boat anchor in about 20 seconds. Then i got about 4 reps, which felt… just awful and bad… and gave up.
I’m not a quitter at FS, see my recent widowmaker, but holy hell that was a different kind of suck! Respect, @davemccright !

But to give it a more reasonable go, I did 30-10-30 on the bicep curl machine at 45lb and the pec flye machine at 90lb and it felt good enough. I have no problem trying it more in the future.

It’s seriously brutal! Good on you for challenging yourself with it though! Excited to see your results and trials with it!
