BMXers interest me. I hear that they are some of the fastest riders from 0-30mph. Anyone have any stats of their sprint performance. Like the top guys must be wicked fast.

i’m just a roadie/trackie who loves drag racing cars from stoplights.

I can tell you that a few years ago Jamie Staff (brit BMX pro) was training with Britain’s Olympic track racing team … on his first test he broke their machine because he was so powerful. He pummeled everyone elses results once they got it working again. [/quote]

that’s awesome. i just read that he crashed the first time on a track bike so he doesn’t care for track racing. seems like he would be a very good match sprinter if he trained for it. ryan bayley is a great example of a bmx guy going to the track.

Uh, Kilo…Jamie’s the current world champ in one of the shorter events (sorry, not up the the various track disciplines) and was DQed from the semis at the 04 Olympics. I know he wrecked really badly back in '98 and got jacked up so maybe that’s when the interview dated back to.

Here’s some beef for the bloodthristy out there.

About 4 yrs. ago when I was 24 thought about getting back into racing, use to race in Tampa & St. Pete. Would go look @ the latest mags to think about it. But kept seeing guys all banged up & I don’t have health insurance & said I better not. Now 4 yrs. later I’m still thinking about it.

I don’t want to be 40 & wished I would have done it. I would be bad ass too cause I’m so much stronger from working out all these yrs.

Any of u know of any tracks near Naples Fl. & what are some good websites to check out?

yeh, I just realized and now remember seeing his name up there in the results for UCI track races.

too bad there is no money in track racing.

Not much more in BMX right now, either.

Bruce Lee - what years did you race in Tampa? I grew up in Sarasota and raced there through out the early and mid-90s. There’s a national coming up the first weekend of April if you wanna come check it out and further enflame the itch.

Oh yeah…forgot to add visit www.floridabmx.com for track info. I know Cape Coral’s still going strong and at one time there was a track in Naples.

Dein … I’m frothing at the mouth now … gotta ride!!

I know it’s kind of late in the thread but I finally got this pic on my computer where I could upload it…seven stitches and a crack skull, all with a full-face helmet on. Took a mean digger after nailing an easy 8 foot drop. Had to turn hard right after landing and some motorcycles had torn up the ground leaving about 3-4 inches of fine powdered dust. didn’t scrub enough speed and my front end jackknifed on me sending me flying face first into the only pile of rocks around. Hit it just perfectly so that one came through the helmet and nailed my face. I jumped up, mostly wondering if my bike was alright.

My buddy told me I had a hole in my face and then it started gushing blood. Still had to ride to the bottom of the mountain. Luckily there was a hospital at the bottom where they hooked me up. Made it to work the next day to lead my MTB tour. Told the tourists they better listen to me or they may look like me… most attentive group I’ve ever had. Hit the trail again the day after that. When you gotta ride you gotta ride…

BTW, I’d like to get some of the freeride/ DH guys together on a thread so we can talk shop about bikes, parts, trails and some training tactics. I guess I’ll start it in the Get A Life forum so keep an eye out and give a shout out when it appears, even if it’s just to say “howdy” so I can know who’s into this stuff around here. Maybe we could get a T-Man bike trip going to Moab or Whistler?
