What type of riding do you do and where do normally ride? What’s your main bike?
Being good as biking while preserving LBM can be a hard task. How do you structure your training/nutrition such that you can do well in both areas?
I do mostly trailriding, with the occasional XC race. I usually go to the various areas of Patapsco, MD. My bike is a Jamis Eueka, with many upgrades, including SID forks. My main goal right now is fat loss, so my biking is suffereing a little, since I am a low-carb diet.
I think the most important thing is to come to a decision for yourself. Do you want to be a professional mountain biker, do you compete? Or do you just go out on the weekends for fun.
Check out the code(renegadetraining.com) and you will get some great ideas.
I prefer specialized bikes. Cannondales are a close second for me. Groove
I would be happy if I could maintaine my lbm over the summer, while being able to be competitive in the Beginner class if I do any races. I usually ride 5-10 hours a week, weather permitting.
But it’s so occasional I doubt I’d be of any help. I ride on wildest stuff I can find in the GA/SC area.
Even despite a total lack of gym cardio work, I’ve never had a problem on the bike. Apparently you can keep yourself in pretty decent shape with weights alone.
But if you’re really serious about it… I can think of no better workout than sprint trials (a la CT’s 400M article) twice a week. Keep the calories up.
I’ve got to stick myself of the mountain biker list. Though I fall into a slightly different category from most.
I’m a trials rider. That’s trials, not trails. I’ve got a heard of bikes rolling around the house, my two main rides are:
Kona Koa (greatly upgraded XC bike, XT, 9.0)
Planet X Zebdi (full on trials rig, rigid, Chris King hub, HS 33 brakes etc).
I also work for the Albert Bicycle Association throughout the summer teaching courses and doing camps. This year I know we’ve got one camp happening in Jasper which should be a blast.
I used to ride more often with friends, and we tore up some good trails. We usually went once or twice a week.
Now, I’m lucky if I go once every few months. I enjoy it, but don’t always have the time or friends to go with (I ride alone, but it’s fun to go in a group).
I’m a pussy mt. biker. Don’t want to kill myself with somehting crazy. Just some rails to trails. I like the road better. We have a lot of hills, so I can get a decent workout in with a 10 mile ride or so.
I guess you could consider me a bit of a Mountain biker I presently own 2 bikes A Gary Fisher Josuha 1 that has under gone a lot of design changes as well as a Banchee Scream which is undergoing a bunch of changes. My greatest fame to claim is suffering a Major Concussion while competeing in THE Canadian Death Race (a 125 kilometer race over 4 mountains) Hence the name Lip Stand
some of my Co workers think I’m a little deranged because I spend my holidays taking helicopter rides up to the top of mountains then doing a screaming decent on a bike.
Anyone who thinks that you don’t get much of a work out doing this try hauling 50 lbs 200 feet at a60 degree angle over loose rocks and boulders.
cheers

It is not your hobbies that make us leery, it is the drooling and twitching that overcomes you when you hear the word “Compressor” that scares us so. Ever since the “Head Wound” as we refer to it around the office, your behaviour has taken some strange twists.
If you would stop soiling yourself, the night cleaning crew would appreciate it.
