A Good All Around Shoe!

I’ve always found Nike Free’s NOT to run true to size. I’ve always needed a half size bigger to be truly comfortable.

Check out Zappos.com for information on different shoes often they have reviews and how true to size things feel…etc

I don’t have Chucks but I have used wrestling shoes in the past, I would NOT use Chucks for sprinting or running. Maybe short stuff like under 50m, maybe even a few 100’s but I wouldn’t recommend it.

I like the Free Trainers 7.0’s as well if you are looking for a overall shoe, durability wise it’s not the greatest but still a good shoe.

Trust me, try the Five Fingers. Nothing beats bare feet, and the Five Fingers are as close as you can get while wearing shoes.

What training do you do in them and how quickly do they wear out?

I do everything in them. Squat, deadlift, sprint, jump. Can’t say anything about how quickly they wear out; I’ve only had them since Christmas, though they seem to be going strong.

Exactly how flexible/mobile are these things… what could you compare them to?

If you want a good shoe for everything you only really need to buy some pair from Nike or another quality company. Whatever you think fits the bill probably will. Having that said I got Frees last week and I really like them so far (I use them for everything, like you).

If you want a bunch of different shoes for different things then I guess you would have to research the available products a little more though.

Or you could just not wear shoes. But yeah I agree with that otherwise. I workout in my basement and do all my training barefoot: squats, deadlifts, cleans, and even sprints in grass at a park right down the street.

At the risk of sounding like a fanatic I’ll link this:

I feel like there are a few members of T-Nation who can appreciate it.

Excerpt:

We have always assumed that most people in modern shoe-wearing societies walk “normally.” It is true only if we use the term “normal” in its liberal context, meaning to conform to an accepted standard or general average.

But natural walking – the pure manner without faults of form or function – is quite another perspective. All ambulatory creatures in nature walk naturally, hence with maximum efficiency. That includes all shoeless people, who are the only “pure” walkers on the planet. All the rest of us, by grace of the shoes we wear, are defective walkers in varying manner or degree. And who knows how many of our foot problems stem, directly or indirectly, from those shoe-caused postural and gait faults.

Try this: get the thin lttle liner/insert out of your sneakers, and just fold it in half, bend it, twist it. Pretty much like that.

And Asgardian, I’d love to go barefoot everywhere, but most gyms and other businesses tend not to let you in without shoes on.

I’ve found Puma shoes perfect(for me) for deadlifting, squats, etc. I currently have these
