Not a fan of this training style but I’m pretty sure it’s working, at least for legs anyway which was the main goal. Just deloaded and it’s so tempting to go back to the strength range…maybe if I just do strength range for upper and keep the lower program the same…
I’ll keep trying to hold out on big changes until the end of the year!
i’m 100% on the program set by coach. 3 weeks to go to the novice comp and then i’ll see what he has in store for me after that. My house if full if germs with sick kids at the moment so I am praying I wont get sick!!
Just curious if anyone here is #committed using Deepwater? I’m still running BBB but have been reading up on Deepwater. I have to say it looks nuts but could be fun.
I don’t know who’s doing the exact program right now, but @T3hPwnisher has done it, and I believe, if I’m remembering correctly, @anon96032531 & @dt79 are/have doing it?
It was far from fun for me, but it was effective even without being able to finish the entire thing. Main thing with deep water is to not quit in the middle of a session and eat. You’ll grow a ton and you’ll gain an immense amount of strength/knowledge about yourself.
I have a garage gym. Things could get interesting. At least I’ll be doing it in the winter. This summer was brutal in the garage. I’ve read @T3hPwnisher review and he recommends not swapping the barbell row with t bar rows. I feel that my lats and upper back get hit harder with t bar and meadows rows. Not a good idea to swap those for the barbell rows in your opinion?
Just curious; did your upper body grow? I successfully achieved lower body growth last year through SGSS. I was doing 5x5 and 5x8 on squat, deadlift, lunges, and RDL’s (in that order). I feel like all of my growth was in the lower body though. My upper body just got softer and the lines between muscles just got blurry.
It’s hard. If you have a problem with effort and work capacity, you’ll gain something from it.
I’m not sure it’s more effective than normal workouts I just make up when I’m in the gym. In the long run, running it or not won’t matter. I did it because I got bored and @T3hPwnisher keeps talking about it. I’m not someone who cares for programs unless I’m trying to get my numbers up in the short term for a few selected lifts.
Seeing that this is a thread about program ADD, you probably should stick to the program you are running instead of program hopping.
I mean, yeah. Everything grew. I’m sure PWN would attest to this too. I know you’re dedicated to being lean year round though, so it might differ from you. I stay pretty soft tbh. I really only care about size and strength, not as much the comp. Some parts of the year I’m lean, most times I’m not.
@zeptrey I also did it with a garage gym. I actually feel that works better than a commercial gym, because I was no joke laying on the floor between sets during some parts of the program. Less concern with making a spectacle of yourself.
The rows are there to build your clean, rather than your lats. I definitely would have regretted swapping to t-bar rows when the time came to do 100 power cleans.
@Frank_C I saw fantastic growth in the upperbody, but as @oldbeancam noted, I had to get a little soft on the program for it to happen. Specifically in the final 6 weeks. But over the summer, I peeled away the fluff and was amazed at how big I had gotten. My avatar photo shocked me when I first saw it, because my arms had never been a big feature of mine, and they had grown substantially, along with my shoulders and chest due to the structure of the bench day. And, in turn, as I’m letting my bodycomp slide again in pursuit of more strength, I’m noting that I can still see separation and structure at bodyfat levels where, previously, those things dropped off.
I’ve been such a broken record over the program partially because it’s funny but primarily because I was blown away by it. But it’s also the hardest I’ve ever had to work in my life. Definitely have to find a time in your life you can support it if you wanna run it.
I’m thinking about really pushing it in the coming months when my schedule gets really hectic and chaotic. I want to see how far I can push before I break honestly. And that’s the best part of DeepWater. I remember one of my conditioning days I did bear crawls up the massive asphalt hill near my place in the rain. It was cold, wet and made me feel terrible, but it was amazing how willing I was to keep going due to the methodology behind it.
Normally I would say just do what you want and not sweat small things like this, but in the case of DeepWater and how it’s laid out, I wouldn’t swap them. They’re placed how they are because of the emphasis on power cleans later on. If you look at the program, you have three weeks of pull ups/bent rows followed by clean pulls, then it’s pull ups/shrugs. The bent row helps with the mid/hang position in the clean.
Always run shit as written first before you mess with anything. Even if it looks off to you or something, chances are the author wrote it the way they did for a reason.
I’ve been thinking about doing what @T3hPwnisher has mentioned before, and making a challenge here called Swole 2020,
6 weeks Big but Boring Beef Cake (BBB Beefcake/BBB-BC)
1 week deload, test your maxes if you want to
6 week Building the Monolith, 12 eggs & 1.5lbs ground beef every day (+ whatever else you need to eat)
1 week deload, test your maxes if you want to
6 weeks Deep Water Beginner, with the high protein, high fat, diet
6 weeks Deep Water Intermediate, ditto
That’s 26 weeks, half a year under the bar.
Next, choose your own path,
6 weeks Deep Water Advanced
or, if you are desperately missing carbs (or this would be your preference for some other reason)
12 weeks Simple, Guaranteed Size and Strength
But, I’m not to keen on doing the low carb thing as I’d like to eat socially a bit more often, which is why I haven’t announced the challenge. And I’m still making good progress with @isdatnutty’s program and don’tssee a reason to change things up if progress is being made.
I’m hanging in there. Three out of my four lifting days are pretty much spot on for me right now, need to make a little tweak to one day but going to finish out this initial six weeks first.
