A Few Good Olympic Lifting Programs

For me, learning the Olympic lifts was a lot like learning how to punch or kick. Sure you can buy Baz Rutten’s street defense video and get the gist, but there are nuances that make or break technique that won’t be found in a video. Even for a general level of competency, it’s much easier to learn from a real coach than to try and teach yourself.

^that analogy makes me feel like an idiot for not getting a coach thanks. (asshole)

Mmmmmm
So since you guys say that the C&J and Snatch should pretty much just be done with a coach. What about other olympic variations that are useful for athletes?

On this site…it shows olympic style lifts and such which would benefit an athlete to some extent.

I’m assuming that push press and hang jump shrug and high pulls would be good for neck/traps for contact sports and a good tool other than regualr neck work?

I’m guessing the power variations are ok.

Just curious. What do you guys think my olifting potential would be?

I almost worked up to a 315 (290 is the actual lift) power clean and for a little guy like me thats not too bad think I was about 180 at the time in double digit bodyfat. I did 275 earlier at the gym and i’m 170 single digit bodyfat right now.

workout was

jump squats 8x2
power cleans + front squats 8x 1+2 (275 last couple sets)
snatch pull floor + hang 6x 1+2 (315 last couple sets)
good mornings 4x8 all sets

xen whats your max squat and front squat?
that seems good man.
i’ve never done any cleans or anything, i tried hang cleans but pretty much just use all arms…
im also trying to find a coach for myself to learn the lifts so i can incorporate them

did you make that workout up by yourself?

uh not sure of my max oly squats right now. best deadstop front squat was 335x1, pretty sure i could have done 10lbs more if it wasn’t stopped (had on knee sleeves)… best box squat was 5plates a side 495. but my bodyweight was considerably heavier and all i was doing was lifting twice a day and wrestling on my college’s club team (damn i miss college). Im smarter about my lifting now, and almost as strong, i just don’t spend nearly the same amount of time lifting.

Yea I came up with that workout myself. I always did a lot of oly lifts and jump squats for my DE work. My ME work usually consisted of deadlift variations and front squats. Right now it’s going to be pretty squat centric. Box squats, dead stop oly squats, deadstop front squats… stuff like that. (I was actually thinking about doing smolov)

a lot of my upperbody work will be on parallettes and ring work though. Just my DE upper stuff will be jerks & 1 arm snatches.

actually im willing to get i could finally clean 3 wheels if i got a damn coach. im taking a little bit of time off from muay thai (some problems with my coach and i’m getting burned out)… i might just take this time to get REALLY fucking strong meanwhile.

you guys are convincing me to just find an oly gym and call it a day :-p

oly gym + gymnastics rings in my free time probably = win.[/quote]

If anything will burn you out its thai boxing. Coach issues are no good either.

You will likely love having a coach. It is the difference between night and day, sex with sand paper and sex with a greased fat girl.

It’s so much better,

You should progress well with some coaching and programming. Programming does exactly what it’s supposed to, gets you strong. It’s so cool. and fun. you know what is going to happen long before it does. its like looking forward to christmas! especially when test days come up.
