A Dog's 531 Journey

Your dogs look about as excited to be in the gym as my dogs! So cute. Lunadog is shepherd, it looks like? She is a big girl. What is Shadow–malamute cross? Hard to tell in the shadows like that.

I forgot to turn the speakers off (I am at work) before I watched, and after getting a few weird looks from the kids (I work in the teen section of a public library) I realized that without the visuals, the heavy breathing is a little suggestive, lol.

Looks awesome. I was pulling sumo for awhile, but my trainer switched me to conventional. I will try sumo again soon, to feel the difference now that I know a little bit about what I am supposed to be doing! Emphasis on the “little.” Tonight is leg night, so I will DL tonight!
Thanks Chrysalis
Luna is pure bred shepherd weighing about 80lbs, Sol is the black one you can see in the video. He is half Lab and half Husky/wolf, supposedly. He is a big boy at 125lbs but the lab is completely dominant temperament wise. Shadow wasn’t in the video. She is an old lady Husky rescue dog.

Take it to those deads tonight!

Nice job on the DLs. I feel like I’m going to pass out at about 6-7, you must be wobbly for about 15 minutes after breaking through double digits.
Thanks Rugger!

wobbly is the word! I don’t think my heart rate came back to a reasonable range for at least that long. I do feel that I’m at least doing enough now that may cardio-vascular system isn’t my limiting factor anymore, because that last one almost didn’t lock out with the hips.

Went golfing with my son today, did 18 holes until the thunderstorms rained us out halfway through the 18th. Then I came home and did my bench day, perhaps not the brightest idea…

Cycle2 Week3 5-3-1
Bike 5m, sh rehab, ytwl, face pulls
Bench barx10, 85x5, 115x5
135x5, 155x3, 175x3
Got surprised by my son in the middle and then lost my air on the third - should have stopped there. Major FAIL on the 4th!

BBB Bench 100x10 (5 sets) superset with:
DB BO Row 85x10 (5 sets ea arm)

The different grip width had a surprisingly weakening effect. I think I was too wide during my earlier sets. The final set was probably just about right. Not pleased with only getting 3 and failing on the 4th but that’s what happened…

It happens sometimes, dog. You’ll be knocking it out soon enough.

Agreed.

Thanks guys - It wasn’t a bad day, it just wasn’t as good as I wanted…

Took the bike out for a short spin today in between thunderstorms and found out that what I knew already - my cardiovascular performance is way down. I think I’ll get out and do a bunch of biking during my upcoming de-load week.

Soldog,

You looked plenty strong on the first 3 reps. And with the rack, you can try for that one extra rep and not get crushed if it doesn’t work out - that’s not a fail, that’s a learning moment. Looks to me like you’re doing great.

Soldog,

Good job on the benches. Maybe the wider grip will take some getting used to, but it really helped me get my bench #s up.

Bike 10m, sh rehab, ytwl, face pulls
Squat barx10x2, 115x5, 135x3, 165x3
195x5, 225x3, 250x7 PR reps
A satisfying completion to the second cycle must have been stoked squatting for the first time in my new rack, even if my knees were caving in!

BBB Squat 155x10 (5 sets)
Knee raises
Bike 30min

NIce work, soldog. You look right at home in the new rack. As to the knees caving, I continue to fight that on anything above 225#.

Thanks LS! I suspect I’ll be working on the knees for as long as I lift…

Takes a while to get use to a different width grip but I think in the long run a slightly wider grip will pay off.

I know it hit my pecs harder than my previous grip width…

SD,

I sensed some real, primal emotion on that last squat rep! Yeah, babee!

Primal is good…always worth another rep and boosts the T.

Soldog, looking good,

Nice squats, and the bench looked strong as well.

kmc

Squats looking better than ever SD. Keep it up.

Thanks Math, LS, KMC, Joe!

I can’t do anything but keep on keepin’ on 'cause I think it’s the only thing keeping me in the game these days…

But my squats still need alot of work.

As KMC says on his log, the comments, feedback and camaraderie on this forum are huge motivators for me, especially since I train alone and have no where else to share!

Thanks to all!

That cage looks great, watching you bench on the old one was a bit scary, as far as safety goes…I’m sure the young lad will be more carefull, I would blame the music you were listening to, but, I’m a snob so…Glad to see your still cranking away.
