A Completely Random Thread of Randomness

I just heard someone describe people who always use AI or ChatGPT as “Third-party thinkers.”

Sounds like the same people who discouraged me from quitting my teaching job because “that whole internet thing is a fad.”

“Any day now, sonny . . .”

Yeah, it was a weirdly arrogant statement. I’m sure they thought it was clever though.

Duh. Like I’ve said before, “water fasting” is a fun new way to say anorexia.

@Brant_Drake or anyone?

Let’s say I wanted to buy a cookbook for someone as a gift that takes someone out of their comfort zone.

What would you recommend?

Fancy shit.

Weird shit.

Great cover art! I only do Kindle books these days. Makes me miss having a “stylish” bookshelf.

I make it a point to have a bookshelf in every room. It’s my sole contribution to home decor, and scratches the Lit major itch.

Once I stuck a couple of cookbooks I wanted to reference later in the fridge and my wife did not buy my “Any shelf is a bookshelf” argument.

My brother actually prints his own labels for every book he has according to the Dewey decimal system, which seems like overkill, but he has a PhD and I don’t.

Going back to randomness about books, I collect old books and when the ligands in the pages breakdown and yellow, they produce vanillin, which is what makes that comforting “old book” smell.

Not all of them do though, in the 17 and 18 hundreds paper was often made with rags, and those just smell musty.

I learned something cool today. I keep a short beard but my beard trimmer broke, and I dilly-dallied ordering a new one, so my wife made me go get my “unemployment beard” trimmed.

The barber told me that the best way to find the chin line is to make a fat face then trim from the double chin.

Interesting. I do my best daily to keep the “employed” look, then let a barber clean it up once a month or so.

If you got to pick one person on the planet to fight, and if you win you get all their money and assets, who would you pick?
