You would like Dune.
Was that the program where the professor was a bald man in a wheelchair? I kid, I kid…
Hmmmm, for some reason that kind of sounds like something I heard about, but I only got pulled into another class to take some aptitude tests as the teacher had recommended me for the gifted and talented classes. I got in, somehow, but man were those kids smart! I was the George W Bush of the GTL program. But hey, at least I was in. I went from thinking I was so much smarter/better than my previous classmates to, after a few weeks of the rigorous coursework, being extremely jealous of my classmates who were watching movies and jacking around in their classes. Grass ain’t always greener.
Loved it! those women were really interesting, and I was about to watch the series Dune: Prophecy but I heard too many people say it sucked. The Benir jesuit or whatever, i have no idea how that is spelled.
I have a theory about that!
Antenna can send and recieve signals. Our brains, neural networks that produce, conduct, and transmit energy are highly capable of transmitting and recieving various types of and frequencies of different energy waves.
When you’re “in synch” or on the same wavelength, you Can communicate in some rudimentary manner.
Easiest example I can think of is the Phone Call. I can’t count the number of times my sister and one brother was calling me, and I’d answer the phone before it rang. Or, vice versa. Im thinking of calling them, and pick up the phone to dial, and there they are!
I do that to my wife a good bit too, but she hates it and doesn’t think its funny at all.
So you were. GatE = Gifted and talented Education.
Interesting theory/phenomenon! Sadly, I have yet to access that portion of my brain lol. I don’t think I’ve ever had that happen, but I have heard of what you described. But I do think there is more to your thoughts pertaining to the electrical part of our brain/bodies and I think that there is potentially MUCH more to be learned from it. Too bad getting funding for what many would deem “mad science” is hard to come by…dammit
Can’t be weaponized. Gov already tried. Has to be of academic/medical value.
Well, now that you say that, I guess I was, just a different name for the program. Although i was never whisked away to a black-site for confirmation testing lol.
It’d be interesting to see a long-term analysis of all kids who were in that program…where they are 25 years later, their achievements, their careers, etc. I would have to think that a very strong percentage would be living what we would collectively deem “successful lives”, but I also think there are a good number of kids in regular classes who maybe didn’t “show promise” who then went on to do amazing things. But DOES being in GTL classes motivate students to want to achieve greater academic/life success? Shit, I didn’t mean to open a wormhole on the matter, my bad. Sometimes I think on things and then from there the ball gets rolling downhill rapidly.
Huh. My wife does the same thing when I call her 3 seconds before she calls me, which happens a lot.
But you did do that.
I’ve noticed they almost universally tend to avoid traditional roles.
Its all good. Its the random thread!
Last year my son was tested for gifted program at the recommendation of his teachers during our parent teacher conference.
He tested just below the cut of line. My take was that he’s nervous and doesn’t test well, so I didn’t push it.
They did bump him up to the advanced learning classes as a result though, and he is now crushing those. Also in the 99th percentile for all metrics on standardized tests.
I’m kinda on the fence about it. He’s clearly very bright. He also studies diligently. Id rather he be very bright and hard working (not that gifted kids don’t work hard too) so that he understands that it takes both to do well in life.
I’ve always been kinda lopsided. My work has been mostly blue collar, usually very hard. My education, incomplete. People don’t hire me because I’m smart.
I’d definitely like for things to be better/different for him. From what some of my academic friends have said, he’s a great combination of both.
Divided over 6 shows… Should’ve been more clear
Jk yes one show
Bene Gesserit … I have the original on DVD still
I have it on laser disc, peasant.
Johnny Come Lately… I had it on Beta then VHS then DVD.
Not GATE studies, but interesting study on happiness:
For CIA weaponizing woo woo, google Gateway HemiSync project.
Yeah, that was the weird “hearing tests” we were given. I still remember being told it was about identifying different frequencies and making sure your ears were balanced.
Btw, I see you survived the banhammer.
They ban people here??
I just watched the Dune Prophecy series, I thought it was pretty good! It’s not as big budget as the movie, obviously, but it’s well thought-through and does a good job of explaining the whole Harkonnen/Artreides/Bene Gesserit interaction.
