Both. The environment and society that you live in defines what her role will be. If you get involved with a woman who isn’t happy with that role, her unhappiness becomes your problem.

While I’d have to look up the Latin word, it’s not a coincience that it is so similar in several romance languages (‘‘bandito’’ in Italian, ‘‘bandido’’ in Spanish and Portuguese… It’s even written the same way in French, even though the ‘‘T’’ is silent).
