I am wanting to find a coach for a few lessons to teach me proper technique in olympic lifts. Ive had back surgery, but have fully recovered and my back is normal as far as i know. I was wondering if a trainer is worthwhile, or is the technique possible to learn by starting light and reading /watching videos.
seeing as how you progress to heavey weight i think getting a coach in the beggining would be a wise idea. any thoughts? i live in montreal quebec. anybody know of any centres that offer lessons.
In the mean time you can go to DanJohn.org and in his website is a link to a 50min video of him teaching the Olifts. Its good and it will get you started out.
But you’ll need a coach as dfreezy explained.
Try to search for Canada’s equivalent to USAWeightlifting, look for a gym nearby and then send whomever is in charge an email. They might be able to refer you to someone closer to you, or coach you themselves…
If u go to college or are an alumni look if they have an OL club.
I went to the USAWeightlifting website and I didn’t see anything that could help me find a coach nearby, except possibly some excel files that I can’t open.

where do you live? I can prolly help you find something in the US
There is Spoon Barbell in Richardson, TX. We lift out of a two car garage off 75 and main, just south of george bush. If you’re interested, look up on USAW for contact info. If you want to PM me, I can give you the coach’s contact information. This is the guy who coaches Chad Vaughn.
