At least I beat this guy: Y.L. 215x1 Squat - YouTube

This is one of my squats at 215 today. Can anyone tell if it looks better than the one yesterday (PMPM)? For some reason, I’m crap at judging.
You’re folding like a house of cards but I would probably give it to you on depth. I did have to watch it several times, which means that an anal judge who requires clear and convincing evidence would not white light it.
Also, that is not the ideal camera placement for squat depth, imho.
I’ve only ref’d once, but I realized that half of calling a squat is instinct.

On to the squats- I think depth on this one was deep- but im a hack, I don’t know which is more important thighs at or below parallel or hips under knees…
form is suffering a little but you are near Max effort.
looking pretty tough.

The squat was tough to look at? I realise the shorts make my ass look big but come on. That’s just mean.
Depth still isn’t good. I’m not pushing heavier until I can hit depth with 215.

Thanks. Now can you tell me my shorts are cute?
I know I’m folding. I don’t know what’s up with that. I think that’s why I’m having trouble with depth. I was even consciously thinking “sit back, sit back” and I still folded. Maybe I’m just tired after all the lifting and moving this weekend.
I’m going to hammer away at it.
Choo are a squatting MA-CHEEN, Meng!
Nice shorts.
Knees? Coming in or staying out?

Out. I’m pretty sure at any rate. It’s tough to find the perfect taping angle for most lifts. I don’t have a mirror. Well I do have one but I’m not using it. I find it easier to lift without one. I’m more focused on what I’m doing.

You are the subject of unsavoury deadlift thoughts, meng ![]()

I was very good today and made myself do housecleaning and some work I’d brought home before I played in the garage. Mostly I just did a few things RL had suggested.
btw Rugger, I can do face pulls from one of the big pipes in the garage very easily. I don’t have to worry about shifting the rack. They felt nice on my shoulders. I also did x band walks across the garage.
So of course I squatted again. I warmed up and did another 3 singles at 215. I’ll post a video. I think depth is a bit better but still in a grey area.
After that I tried out my wooden boxes and did light box squats up to 135. Nothing serious, I just wanted to get a feel for them.
Finally, I did reverse band bench. I did a few reps at 145 with the grey bands. We think they may be monster mini bands but aren’t sure. I tried 155 but couldn’t lock it out. I was able to lock out 150. Clearly that’s something I can work on. My new shirt will be here soon and I don’t know how much I’ll need to touch in it so I better get cracking on lock outs.
That’s all you did? I figured you would have run through Smolov by now (both base and competition cycles).
BTW, I love that bar!

take my opinion fwiw…but I don’t think depth is the issue for you…it’s your being able to come out of the hole that needs work…ducks ok, don’t throw your power tools at my head!!!
are you working on the driving the elbows forward thing? It forces the chest to come up FIRST, before the butt…
I know I’ve been sharing this wisdom with everyone, but only because I followed MM’s advice, and it’s like magic!!
Why not try squats with a lower weight, with all the techniques to see how it feels?

snort!
Tuesday May 19, GL Burlington
Warmup and shit
A Squat
1x10x45
1x5x95
1x5x135
1x3x165
(1x5) x5 - 195 25 reps
My back started bothering me. It actually started a couple of days ago but has gotten worse. I’m going to make an appointment to see my chiro. I feel it when I’m squatting in the middle of my back on the right hand side. The pain intensifies when I push my elbows forward. Clearly there is some weakness that Dr. Handy hands will be able to sort out lickety split. By the end of squatting it hurt to breathe deeply. It feels fine now but I know it will flare up again the minute I have weight on my back.
B Flat bench
1x10x45
1x5x65
5x5x100
C DB step ups
2x6x35
D1 GHR
2x8
D2 Bar rollout
2x10
E single leg squat to box
2x10/side
I was not full of piss and vinegar tonight. In fact I felt on the pukey side of things. I’ll go see the chiro and won’t squat at least until Friday.
Next time I squat, I’m going to use one of my fancy new bands to hit depth. I’ll stretch it across the front and keep forcing my ass into the hole until it hits the band.
